I am in the process of buying two FFP scopes for hunting target rifles. I have decided one will be a Nightforce F1 3.5-15 but the budget really doesn't allow for two of them. So, what should I get for the other one?

I plan on shooting some competitions as well as using these rifle to hunt. Shooting steel past 1000 yds.
I want mil/mil as that is what my other scopes are.
High end magnification at 18-20x
Repeatable target turrets
Rugged enough to stand abuse

Some of the options I am considering

IOR 3-18 Don't know much about them but have heard some good things.
Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20 ERT
SWFA 5-20
Any others or what would be the best pick of those 3?

Thanks

Bushnell Elite Tactical g2 DMR 34mm tube. Just awesome, the dmr reticle is easy to use. Can be had for around $1100. Cant beat that! Hit up liberty optics on here, great service and prices.

End if Thread. I got a like new one for $800 6 months ago here on the hide. Nothing comes close to the value for the money. To do better, you need to step up to the Razor HD, at almost twice the price.

Have one and love it, new for like 990 on amazon.

How does the Bushnell glass compare to Nightforce glass? Can they take some abuse? Honestly, I had not really even considered Bushnell, I am surprised to see that many votes for them compared to Leupold.

I have the HDMR with the H-59 reticle. Once you spend about 50 rounds through it you will have a HOOT target shooting ect. Steel shooting with quick follow-up shots will almost seem like cheating.

I've got the 34mm tubed 3.5-21 dmr and a mark 4 and honestly it's a toss up between the two glass wise. take a look here....http://rangerproof.blogspot.com/2012/08/bushnell-elite-dmr-35-21-ffp-precision.html here....http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/snipers-hide-rifle-scopes/94445-full-review-bushnell-hdmr-g2-reticle.html

Maybe the Bushnell G2 is tough as nails but I've seen to many Bushnell scopes fail for me to spend my money there. I would look at Vortex PST and SWFA for that price range.

I mean to be fair were any of those scopes recent and from the higher end line? I've gone through 4(2 break, 1 bad glass, 1 still have) of the $299 SWFA SS and i still have a rifle that wears one and would probably buy another because they have a good warranty.

They were all top end scopes but not G2 models. Hell, to be fair, even S&B scopes break. But in my experience I have seen more Bushnell scopes break than any other brand. My number one pick would be Vortex PST because I know the people there well and have had very good luck from the four I have.

I will agree with you. They have put alot of junk out there and I was more than a little hesitant to put my money in one. Time will only tell, but I think they have put together a winner. The only thing that bothers me a little, is that the reticule gets a smidge thick at 21x.

Well, I have 2 bush trophys, a HDMR, and a XRS on the way. Nope problems yet but just my experience.

My last was a 6500 and the glass sucked compared to anything else I owned. I have four trophy red dots and one was bad right out of the box. Two of my shooting buddy's 4200 Tactical scopes crashed and burned within a month of each other. They had trouble holding zero and tracking. I also have owned a Bushnell that the reticle came loose and rotated in the scope.
To top it off, their CS is not near as responsive as Vortex.
I go way back into the old B&L days (before Bushnell was Bushnell) so I've owned my share of optics and formed my share of opinions.
If you are happy with Bushnell then that is all that matters. Not everyone is so lucky.

Amazing that Team GAP shoot them, when they could shoot ANY glass they wanted........

Look at match results and equipment. .... tells you all you need to know.

You are comparing old tech to what they have now. You should not be commenting if your info is not current.
There are plenty of people that have had to send back Vortex, S&B (which only has a 2 year warranty FYI) USO, NF, ect. Sample size is important, not your statisticaly insignificant experince.

Forgive me for "dissing" Team GAP. How much do they pay for them?
My money, my choice.

I agree... I like bushies but I'd never go off sponsered teams or military contracts. Both are all(or mostly) about the moola
