So what's the whole story on 115gr DTACs? I read on someone else's thread that Tubbs is out. I went to his website, and it doesn't appear that you can even backorder them. I saw an article about 111gr DTACs with a polymer tip but cant tell how old the article is. Midway is also out, no backorders allowed. If no one knows, I will call him and report back. I've only got about 300 left which wont last long.

Everyone, especially the smaller bullet makers, are having supply issues with not being able to get bullet jackets.

So its a supply problem? I know Tubb stopped making the 117. There is a link on his website about 115gr DTACs that routes to a 2008 article on 111gr DTAC with polymer tip so I cant tell whats going on.

They dont have any right now and keep pushing back the ETA on them. I think its up in the air when they will have some to sell.

The DTAC's are being made by Sierra, so not really a smaller maker. However, I believe the DTAC's aren't being sold in large enough batches to make it worthwhile for Sierra to produce at the moment. I've got a bunch on backorder from Mr. Tubb's website (before they were removed), but I may end up just switching over to something more available.

Here's what Sierra has to say about it:

"Yes - [David Tubb] has a large order in with us, but like 3/4 of our own stock - we
cannot get them on the presses. We are running presses in order of
backorder status, which means specialty bullets like this [115gr DTAC] wind up quite a
ways down the list.

They have not been discontinued, they will just be out of stock for a while
until we get them on the presses again for him. Not sure when that would
be, but it might not be yet this year.

Sorry for the shortages,

Matt"

Props to Matt at Sierra for a quick and detailed response, by the way.

I emailed Tubb about 3 weeks ago about this very issue and have yet to hear back from them. Looks like we"ll have to find an alternate bullet, at least for the near future.

Even cheaper yet with not much lost in BC is the Hornady 105 BTHP. $20.11 per hundred or $95.53 ($19.10 per 100) for a 500 round box at Powder Valley.

I have been through the load development process twice with my 30BR, using 125gr SMK and 125gr NBT, only to have the source dry up just when things got interesting.

So I posed the question of performance vs price and availability to my dealer, and he came back with the Sierra 125gr Pro Hunter. He suggested to me that this flat based soft pointed hunting bullet is a lot more accurate than its price and easier availability might suggest. He also told me that when rifle manufacturers include a representational target showing the individual rifle's accuracy, those targets are shot using Pro Hunters.

The Sierra .264" 120gr Pro Hunter #1720 might be a surprisingly useful alternative, at least at distances where flat based bullets are preferable. Also, Like Nosler Ballistic Tips, they could provide for a multi-purpose cartridge.
