Always wanted to customize my Colt 45, so I dropped it off at Gander and had Gary to his magic, a year or so later it's all done, but I really should get some coolass grips for it, you guys got any ideas?

Nice 1911. Some guys have all the cool guns.....

Frankly I like the combo you have. If I were going to change the grips I would either go with one of those unique wood ones that come up here from time to time. I did see some black/grey/white tactical looking grips. I will see if I can get a picture of those.

Thanx! Yeah, the flat mainspring housing and mag well is one piece unit, LPA adj sights, need to sight it in yet. Just got it back after about 3 weeks after deciding I needed that 45 buck Wilson ext mag release, and had Gary adjust the trigger down to about 3lbs.
I might have never got this pistol cept for my dad asked to borrow 200 bucks back in 80, no questions asked, course I did ask about a month later, I was making only buck 25/hr, so come xmas I have this box handed to me and really had no idea what was in it, give you one guess what it was? It was just like when my son got his first AR15 when he was 14, he had no idea what was in the box. Cool guns? Probably the coolest guns I have besides my 6 Creedmoor comp rifle is my Cooper LVT & Anschutz 54 Sporter.

I really like my VZs. They have about a million options, and the make the grips for 10-8 and Harrison too. Want to pick up some of Larry's Horned Lizards when I can afford to.

For a blued 1911 I really like a pair of Double Diamond grips in something like Cocobolo

Looks good!
I'm interested in doing the same with mine, my father gave me.

Personally I don't think you'll find more "cool-ass" grips then the original Colt grips you have.

But that's just me.

I remember back in the late 70s Bowling pin shooting started in a little village south of Anchorage. Several of us Anchorage cops started shooting pins and as many know, its hard to beat a 1911 and 45 ACPs for pins.

It was interesting to see the progression of these pin shooters. As we started people started adding crap to the original series 70s, trying to make better pin guns. As we matured the add-on's started coming off. The shooters who started to win the matches constantly were the ones who progressed back to the original configurations of the Colt Series 70s.

It seems that stock guns gave us the best combination of accuracy and reliability. I see the same thing today at the different action pistol matches I shoot.

Maybe Mr Browning knew more then we do about what 1911s should be.

Nothing screams "tacticool" like an original USGI as issued 1911a1.

Take a look at Alumagrips.com....Extremely nice looking yet tough as hell, lots of different styles and can even design your own if they don't have something you like. My DL Sports Pro came with slimline model.

Well guys, I went cheap, the Packmayrs came in today, I just installed them, what do you think? They feel great, better than the OEM grips for sure.

For my heavy shooters, G10 micarta hands down by Larry Davidson or VZ.

For wood grips, Esmerelda, Craig Spegal and several others under google. I still have a $300 gift certificate from Wicked. Those are some 'artsy' grips.

JG: When the front strap is not checkered, the Packmayrs are not a bad choice. I prefer the "combat" version for better mag release access.
