I’m just spit ballin here. I already have a business to grow, I really don’t need another. But I get “ideas” sometimes and its fun to take them for a short test drive and see what can be done with them.
So here is the situation, and I what I am really wondering is do a lot of people feel like I do about this or am I off my rocker.
Once you get to a certain point in your shooting, and this is not very far down the road to “shooting excellence”, punching holes in paper gets flat out boring. Precision shooting not included, that’s a different ball of wax. I’m talking about pistol/carbine stuff.
I’m no “Grand Master” shooter. I’m just a guy that has worked with some really good shooters/taken some good courses and done a few USPSA shoots. But I just don’t shoot that much anymore because aside from sighting something in I can’t get myself excited to go to the range. Again, I am nothing special. I’m sure that most of you can shoot circles around me and are probably more bored. Which is probably why a lot of you are precision shooters, it’s always hard/there is always something to learn.
So here is my idea, and its not revolutionary. But I don’t know of anything like it, at least around me. I would like to be able to go shoot at a “Shooting Amusement Park” (for lack of a better term).
The range would be set up with pistol carbine “courses” of varying degrees. On the low end would be a course of fire with some pistol and some carbine but not too hard and not a ton of movement. On the other end would be a course of fire where you are shooting pistol from lets say 5-50m and carbine from 15-300m. Lots of movement, lots of shooting positions, etc. And all the targets would be steel, because there is nothing as rewarding as getting that “PING”. The courses of fire would be changed/updated on a weekly basis.
In addition to the pistol/carbine courses there would also be pistol only, carbine only, standard range stuff, maybe a “kill house” and one would hope enough land to be able to do some 1000m precision stuff.
The ranges could even be set up so certain days of the week offered certain environments.
Yearly memberships could be sold (thing golf club membership) which would get the shooter in any time as well as certain days where only members can attend.
I’m sure that with an infrastructure like the above it wouldn’t be a big deal to host USPSA type events, which would help pay the bills. Traveling schools/instructors could also be rotated through which would also pay the bills.
Aside from interest, the biggest hurdles would be insurance (which would be HUGE) and a piece of land big enough that is not too far from the metropolitan area.
So who would pay money, and not huge money to be able to shoot at a place like this? Do you think you would do something like this once a week? Twice a month? Do you think it would get you to shoot more? What sort of features/services would you like to see the range offering? Any ideas? Comments?
Thanks
