You should check out Miltech....they do great work.

I still have a pre-WWII Zeiss Zielsechs looking for a home and am thinking about another scoped 98k project. After the SSR mount, I'm not sure I'd want to go the same route (even though I've heard the LSR is a better, more robust/stable design)...maybe some High Turret mounts from Robert Spielauer?

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

Don't know how I missed this but very nice job BasraBoy.
I'm planing on the same with my Savage with the exception of the scope unless I stumble onto an exceptional deal on a No.32.

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

Thanks Bob....there are some repro No32's kicking around somewhere - Numrich do them. There was a discussion on them over on the Enfield forum at milsurps.com recently:

http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=28870

Not sure they've got a very good rep.....

The guy I got mine from is adertising a Mk1 with the mounting bracket at the moment, also "Peter Laidler serviced"....

.....and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

personally I'd save up and wait for a Mk3 - much easier to zero!

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

As promised earlier in the thread....an update for all you old school gun porn fans:

I finally found the correct Scout Regt MkII telescope to complete the CES!

Even more of a miracle, the missus bought it me for my birthday!!!! I knew there had to be a payback for all those strappy shoes some day

The scope and case are in amazing (almost mint) condition for something that is 70 years old. No major scratches or dents. The leather is totally intact and stitching on all items still tight.

The lenses are clear and bright and unscratched. Magnification is around x20 or x22 (I'll try to take some pics through the scope over the weekend although on the first attempt it was beyond my photography skills!!). Focus is a simple case of adjusting the length of the final draw.

Overall length fully extended is 30" and weight is around 1lb.

Fortunately this scope has escaped the brass polishing fetishists and still retains much of it's original blackened finish on the brass draws.

It was made by Broadhurst Clarkson & Co (it has an early 4 digit serial number so I'm guessing made around 1940/41?)

The only problem was that the strap that secures the cap on the carry case was missing. I have had that replaced by Jon Moore at Moore Leather and he has done a superb job with both the grade and colour of leather used. Almost invisible.

The scope (in it's case) fits in a storage space at the left side of the Transit Case (see pic) ahead of the Scope Tin.

Here's the pics so far:

Did Miltech restore just the Mauser and then you had it converted to a SSR or did Miltech do all of the work?

All very nice- I`d love to be able to have a No.4 like yours.

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

DV - Miltech did all the work on the Mauser and sourced all the parts including the scope which was serviced and rebuilt.

The rifle is an all matching byf41 - the stock is repro but I am currently having that replaced by Paul at TVG with a genuine Oberndorf stamped walnut stock Ed found for me recently.

The SSR mount is a repro but the Zielvier is genuine prewar judging by the serial number.

I've got another Mauser on order with Ed at the moment with a mint condition Zielsechs that I found in Germany.....that'll have a repro LSR

Miltech do great work if you want a totally refurbished milsurp!

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

Love the collection B'boy - do you get to shoot them much? This weeks comp at my club just happens to be rapids and snaps and a specific 8mm Mauser comp. I know a few guys that would love to see your collection that's for sure.

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

jagged - I usually get to Bisley at least twice a month and always take one or two of the classics with me....tend to shoot them at distances between 100 and 600yds.

The Mauser is with Paul at the moment waiting to have the repro stock replaced with an original. It's been in the queue for a month or so now but should be ready to go by the end of June.

Nope. Flip Open cap to allow access to the screw holding on the buttstock. Can also be used as a small storage area, and i guess a bottle opener...

(Neighbour across the road remembers buying a '44 issued enfield that'd been put into storage after the war. Opened the butt cap to find a photo and a half-smoked cigar. Never found the original owner of the photo).

The sockets have got to be like that because we have twice the volts that you guys have....

Thanks for the compliment on the Enfield!

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

Both rifle and transit box are works of art. Congrats to you sir.

Re: Brought this home at the weekend......

Wow, those are some beautiful rifles. Makes me regret selling my all-matching serial numbered M48 Mauser.

transit chest

So my repro Transit Chest showed up yesterday...the set is nearly complete. Just need the original Scout Regt Telescope to complete the CES......

The chest is great - fantastic attention to detail. Anybody interested PM me for the maker's details. He's in Canada. He's a great guy to work with. Takes a real pride in his work.

Stuart, apologies for the delay in replying but I only revisited the thread by luck whilst I was looking for something else. A PM would have been a lot quicker!

Rick has been out of action for a while for a number of reasons and has a backlog of interest...but he is getting back in the saddle soon if you can wait a while (definitely worth doing so IMHO)

PM inbound with contact details.
