T3 Sporter

Great thread!

Neighbor has a .243 T3 for sale. No experience with Tikkas at all but he's asking $525.00 and has perhaps 20 rounds through it.

I've been wanting a .243 ever since a friend of mine gave me his grand dad's Lyman Dies and 400 .243 bullets 7 years ago! This thread has been motivational!

I found them at Menard's. I still have the bag they came in. It says "Part # 81667 5mm x 30mm Metric Socket Head Cap Screw". They are an exact match to the stock screw, only longer and these fit perfect when using all the spacers that come with the rifle.

How is this possible, the manual I read says the stock screws are 4.5x45... Which should be longer then 5x30, I'm thinking I need 4.5x50-55???

Do you have the sporter, or another model?

I'm worthless when it comes to this shit, 2+2=4, no problem, put the square block in the square hole...ya lost me

I might just order a couple of everything from 3-5x30-60, that'll teach'em

I don't have the stock anymore, but it was the Sporter. I'm the same way when it comes to screws/threads. I took the stock screws with me, found ones that appeared to match in thread size/pitch and with the same style heads, but in the length I needed and bought them. All I really know is that they worked perfectly.

Well, my Tikka is not a Sporter (orginally a Varmint in 260 Rem) but some of the modifications that I've done to it probablay answer some of the questions in this thread.

Bought a GRS Long Range Stock for it, a CDI bottom metal and a AICS 308 magazine (Stock from a local dealer here in Iceland but the bottom metal and magazine from www.tikkaperformance). The muzzlebrake is from Roedale, bolt handle from HSS (bought from tikkaperformance), the base is a EGW 20 MOA base. Nightforce scope and rings.

Rifle bedded in the stock and my smith put a new lug in. Orginal barrel and orginal trigger.

A great rifle - love it

Having just sold my custom rig with an adjustable McMillan A5, I would pay that $700 for this sporter stock, though now that I've seen it done, if my sporter stock should break, I'm turning to the whiskey 3 with the TRG shell.

The stock is why I had no reservations about paying $1500 for a $600 tikka, but i had a master sporter, so I knew how much i liked it.

At $500 I'd consider it a hell of a deal... But that's just me

As for my longer screw dilemma, I've solved this problem before by just using a slip on limbsaver recoil pad, that'll probably be my solution again, simple and it works.

I ended up getting. 308. I found one in a Roedale chassis with a PST for a great price. Pictures to come.

Is there any reason why someone hasn't done a little wood working to this stock and took the "bump" or dropped part by the mag well and made it smooth or "normal" looking so the mag doesn't sit way up in there? Looks like a saw, file, and some sand paper could do wonders to the stock for a more stream lined look.

Just Snagged a Unfired 20" .260 Sporter with Nikon 3-18 Mildot, Badger Break all unfired for $1300

Anyone looking for a sporter stock lol.

I'm really considering the Tikka Sporter in .308 right now. My solution for the orange stock is to put a Texas Longhorns symbol on it! (Yes, despite the embarrassing loss last week) Problem solved. If I could get $500 for the stock and put it on the GRS long range stock I would really consider that.

For those that have one, what's the total weight with the long range stock and a varmint barrel (or Sporter barrel which seems the same)?

Stats from eurooptic put the 20" @ 9lbs

Sorry. I meant what's the weight of the Tikka Sporter action with the heavy barrel installed into a GRS long range stock.

Oh not sure.

I don't see the point to putting it into the GRS stock. The Sporter stock feels phenominal and is like being behind a TRG. The only stock/chasis that is worth it IMO is the WC3. You get a modular, folding stock that accepts AICS mags. If you just want AICS mags, install AICS bottom metal into the sporter stock, and your GTG.

I think the choice of stocks is subjective. The fit or look of one stock isn't going to work for everyone. And as it stands, I think this or the Tactical model are the only way to get a heavy barreled Tikka in the US.

The Barrels on the sporters are pretty dam heavy. Atleast on the 20" .260 I have. It's dam meaty.

In case anyone is interested, I posted my Brand New Take off stock for sale in the classifieds for $550. Good deal and should move quick so let me know if one of you guys wants it.
