If you had a choice between getting your favorite rifle powder in eight one pound jugs (with the same lot #s), or one eight pound jug, which do you prefer? Or would it matter to you? Just wondering .....

If you can use it, it's so much more economical to buy an 8lb jug, why would you not? The only downside is when it's close to empty, you get a slightly sad feeling, no matter how many memorable hits that came from the jug!
I've noticed if I havent used powder from an eight pounder in awhile, it seems to weigh less per graduated throw. I assume some chemical in it has evaporated or something over the period of unuse. (Is that a word? Lol) I figured the eight one pounders lets you keep seven "fresh/unopened" pounds at the ready, and the question of weight vs. volume is eliminated. I don't know if is a worthwhile or correct assumption, that's why I'm asking....
Good post. I see where you're going with the question. Never really thought about it that way, but the economics of the larger containers outweighs the freshness argument for me. I'd like to hear what the powder people say.
8 lbs. in multiples all day every day, if you have the need and can find/afford it. 8 lb. jugs are cheaper vs. 1 lb for the same amount. Also might as well spread out the hazmat fee across as much weight as possible.
Buy what you can find! LOL I usually like 8 pounders for the same reason abopve to save money and space but if not available then the 1 pounders of the same lot will work fine. Just had to get 8 1 pound Titegroup instead of an 8 pounder but same amount in the end.
Back in pre-Obama, some sources would let you mix one pounders and offer a discount. Hard to believe it's come to this.
However, I voted for eight one pound bottles because of the empty space in the jug as time goes by. Not scientific, but the vapors do evaporate and exactly how that affects your burning characteristics, I don't know? But, anyway, depends on your consumption. I have an eight pound jug of #2700 that has been sitting on a shelf for maybe 5 years, there might be 6.5 or 7 pounds in it? If it was one pounders, I think it would be easier to trade fresh unopened bottles? BB

The powder manufacturers say to store the powder in its original container only.
I keep my 1 pound containers filled up from 8 pound jugs of powder. This way I don't have to open the 8 pound jug as often and I can still buy at larger quantity for better pricing.

8's are much easier to store, 1lb doesnt last long

I have heard of guys mixing 8 x 1 lbs into a 8 lb jug to spread out any variation in lots, never had enough to consider that. Frankly if the lots have that much effect on your load, 1. you were on the edge of a node 2. find a new powder brand

A few months ago all I could get were 1 pounders limit 10. I got them 10 from the same lot. Take what you can find.
I'm using the same 8 pound jug that I started with in June 2010 and haven't had a velocity change with the same load over three years. I load a batch every couple of months so the jug gets opened and closed every few months.
