My smith is about to cut freebore and ask me what bullets ill be using and how long ill be seating them.i told him ill be using 105hybrids oal 2.80 -2815 and touching land on 2.830 with the hybrids.i understand hybrids like to be litle away from land.so smith said he will cut freebore at 2.830 touching land on 105 hybrids..am i on the right path?i got a 7.5 twist on this barrel wil this freebore safe incase i decided to try 115dtac one day?

Like I told you, id seat the Hybrids to 2.770" and have the freebore cut .015" further, so the bullets would touch the lands at 2.785". I like to have the pressure ring of the bullets right near the neck/shoulder juncture. You can always seat the bullets out further as the throat wears, make sense?

If you wanna use the 115 DTAC then you'd want a .163" freebore.

I tried load a dummy round seems like 2.80 bullet full contact with the whole neck boat tail hangin on shoulder.
Tnx jay

I make sure the pressure ring is inline with the neck/shoulder juncture by lining up an unloaded bullet with the loaded round.

Actually, I found I could seat the Hybrid another .020" to a oal of 2.750" to have the pressure ring perfectly inline with the neck/shoulder juncture. In this case you'd want your freebore to be in the .143" range.

Good stuff.. my smith is kool.. hes giving time to make sure what oal ill go.. i just edited my 2.83 max to 2.81touching land max oal. Thats 2.810-.015=2.765
After breaking il prolyy setle 2.80 or try GAP way 2.81 haha

can you pls tell us whats ideal OAL for this round?
That's different for every bullet. I agree that 2.750 looks a little short with the hybrids. 2.800 at the lands should be fine. Being +/- .010 on your freebore really won't matter. You are over thinking this whole thing.

WIth 105 HYBRIDS i decided 2.810 touching land..ill proly oal at 2.80 -.010 from land is this ok?

Bjay, Guess we'll find out when I get my next build, that will have a 104 throat and I'll probably end up with a 2.750"oal, give or take.
