Hello everyone.

Need a little input from everyone here on a rifle I am planning on building. Monday or Tuesday I am going to order a Sako TRG-22 26" Green 308.
My goal is to have this rebarrelled to 260.

So let the questions begin...

1. For those with 260 TRGs how do you like them? is the mag length sufficient to seat the bullets out to appropriate length? Any other comments?

2. Who would everyone with experience with the TRG to do the rebarrel work? Im looking for 26" or so plus a brake.

3. Would you recommend a brake?

I probably will get a KRG folding stock assembly, they seem to be highly regarded.

Spuhr TRG mount.

And one of 3 scopes I am debating

3-24 march FFp
5-40 march FFP
5-25 S&B MSR

I like the idea of the marches due to their lower weight. The TRG is 2-4lbs lighter than an AW (and $3k less) which helped me decide on not saving at this time in my life. I have read reviews on them but if there are any owners with input on either of the marches or the S&B let me know. I am sure the S&B would be the by far and away winner if I asked for a survey haha. Would like to talk to some march owners though.

I would like to pickup the KRG tool and make this a switch barrel if I ever wanted to shoot 308 again.

If anyone reading this has comments help fill me in on all aspects!

Thanks!

Matt,
Turning your TRG into a 260 is no problem. Mine was a 6.5 Creedmoor with the KRG folding back half. Mark Gordon at Short Action Customs did the barrel swap. It shot fantastic. Jered Joplin at American Precision Arms has done a lot of work on TRGs and everything I have seen of his is laser beam accurate.

I believe EuroOptic has TRGs that have already been worked on by Jered in 260. They are a bit more expensive off the bat but you don't have to ship the rifle and deal with current wait times for the smith you choose. Just food for thought.

I ran a 5-25 S&B on mine and I have a March 5-40 sitting right here!

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions or would like more specific info.

Sounds great!

Yes I asked them about the 260s they had in stock but I would like to have the 308 barrel for one, and all the 260s they had didn't have the 2013 TRG updates to them so I am just going to start with a blank slate.

Does your March have the .05 mil turrets? What are your thoughts on them?

I am leaning towards trying the March... Which do you prefer?

I really love The adjustments that comes with The folders.i use the Quick adjustable LOP a lot

Just a word of caution. I bought a TRG almost 5 years ago now with the same intent you have, send it directly to Jered Joplin and have him rebarrel it to a 260. When I picked the rifle up I decided I had to shoot it as it just to see how it would do. Well I bore sighted and shot 1 round (after cleaning) made an adjustment and fired 3 more rounds and they were under 1/4". I walked down to the target to make sure there were no stray rounds on the big cardboard backer I was using and verify that all 3 rounds went into the same hole, they did. When I returned back to the rifle I had forgotten about the scope adjustment needed because I was so pleased with how a 4 round count barrel was already shooting. I fired 1 more round and didn't see it, then I remembered about the adjustment needed. I made the adjustment and went to a new target. When I got home the 4 round group measured 0.265" and may have been smaller if I had not walked down range. But short story long the rifle shot like this the rest of that barrels life. I never rebarreled it until I shot it out. It is now at APA for that 260 barrel.

I would send my TRG to Jered and crew at APA (I actually did). The SPUHR mount is the best way to go, but if you decide to use a conventional ring and base setup then the NEAR base and APA rings are also very nice. I say go for the brake and if you send it to APA then their brake would be my choice, second would be the NEAR brake as it dosnt have to be timed and is a very nice piece of gear.
