Good info, and good proposed databook pages.

I remember seeing either a video or instructions once on how to disassemble and reassemble the new bolts...and now that I have a bolt I can not remember where I saw that. Does anyone know of where I can find that info?

So I just shot the smallest 100yd group of my life yesterday. I was verifying my zero on my new 22-243Win barrel. It is a benchmark barrel in sporter contour done by TS Customs. The stars aligned, and she put 5 shots through one hole. 52SMK in front of 42.5gr Varget @ 4100fps. I was running a suppressor, and could hear the bullets hit the berm behind the target, otherwise it had me thinking that the bullets weren't making it to the target, or they were off the paper. I literally couldn't tell that they were going through the same hole, but I knew it was possible, so I hung in there.

You can see the subsequent shots after the first just burned the pedals off a bit, and elongated the hole downward ever so slightly. I've shot plenty of "one hole" groups before, but never quite this small. That's a half-inch dot. After firing those, I came up 1 click and locked in my zero. :)

... now if I can just get a coyote to show up.

Damn impressive orkan. I would have thought I was missing the target for sure haha. Impressive that's with the sporter contour as well. What are typical groups you get with that setup?

1/4 MOA is the norm. I fired a 10rnd string with it yesterday, as fast as I could accurately run it, and it was 1/3 MOA and got as warm as I would want it to. I just wanted to make sure it could do 10rnds without stringing.

Here's a 300yd group from the same rifle. Just 3 rounds, as it was during load development. Same load. That's my index finger... which doesn't say much. ... but those are 22cal holes and that's a staple. ;) I'm going out morning and evening this week until I smack a dog with it.

Well I'm sure you won't have any problems hitting varmints with that setup. I just picked up some 178 grain amax, 185 Berger match vld, and 208 grain hornady bthp to work up a load for the 16" .308. Gonna see if it likes heavier bullets. I still have the varget and tac but with the 208 grains would another powder work better such as rl17?

I stay far away from RL powders. Too temp sensitive for my tastes. I've never had to look past Hodgdon for my rifle powders. I run some viht in handguns, but otherwise, all my rifle stuff starts with an H. If Varget doesn't work out, try some H4895.

Do you have access to 2000MR or CFE223? Otherwise, I would stick with Varget.

I'll be stopping by the store later this week to have a look around. I really want to like varget because of the temperature stability and it works well for my 5.56 guns. I forgot to mention I did a lot more testing with various coal on the 175 smk but did not go below 43 grains of powder. I'll try one last time with 42 and 42.5 grains of varget but am beginning to give up hope on it. Hopefully the heavies perform better. I'll transfer this discussion to the reloading section so we can resume this thread. Sorry for derailing a bit

Thanks. I thought I had looked around their website for that. Guess I need to take a closer look

No problem, I printed it off and put it in my manual because I bought one of the new bolts with a conversion kit after I bought my SRS.

Sonofa, this has me all excited to shoot my r700 Travis just did.

If only the weather would cooperate, though with feet of snow to the west and tornadoes easy I'll take 30mph wind.

Greg,
The words out they are packing up now and moving out of state! Nice job on your build and nice group, Congrats!

Yep. Im the the H camp as well.

Just curious...what size groups are you guys typically getting with 308 Fed Premium Gold Match (175Grain)? I shot a 1.1" 5-shot group yesterday (2nd Time I have had my rifle out so I am still getting used to it).

I'm sure some of it is me, but is this ammo going to get me close to the 1/2min potential of the rifle or am I going to have to get into reloading to get it down there?

.52" at 200 yards with Fed GMM 175.

So the "S" and "F" paint on the safety wore off after a couple range sessions. Does anyone have any recommendations on reapplying with something other than the kindergarten finger paint DTA uses haha. It doesn't really bother me but I'd imagine someone else has run into the same problem and it bothered them enough to fix it

Mine wore off on both sides after about 400 rounds with various barrels. No biggie since I'll be there if anyone else shoots the rifle! Have been having great fun, but still getting used the the rifle.

an FYI on the data pages - here is what I came up with - your free to use this for personal use...

DTA_generic.jpg

I decided to use a different method in data book pages in regards to equipment. I create an equipment tab in my book, then give all equipment an ID #. I then reference that ID # on a page - say for doing load work - or target pages - or round counts. This way I don't have to replicate the same information across a whole lot of pages - I can just keep the info on the equipment in one place. This works great for the DTA since I run one chassis with the same optic and suppressor across my different barrels. I create one equipment page for each setup (with most stuff being shared) - but lets me track different zeros etc very easily...

I would love feedback from other folks who are doing it differently...

Thats your average group with fgmm? If that's the case you should win every competition you go to with factory ammo!

Caveat, that was measured center to center.

Too bad I can't afford to feed my rifle with a constant string of 175 Fed GMM.

I haven't won any competitions yet, but I have at least placed in all of them. 2nd and 3rd consistently. Hopefully when I break into 1st it's not because the other guys decided to stay home. I can sleep at night because typically I am shooting against guys who consistently wring 1/4 moa accuracy out of their .300WM's, the .308 just can't compete with their ability to shed wind at distance. Oh well, one of these days right?

You really shoot 0.52" groups at 200 yards? I thought you were giving me shit:) Nicely done!

I was just trying to gauge whether or not my 1.1" group was me or ammo. I need more range time.

I have similar results to you with fgmm. Around .75-1 moa at 100. Wish I could get that kind of performance...I need to get used to the rifle still as well. I'm gonna be trying some heavier bullets in the 1-8 twist barrel and I'll let you know how they perform for me

2nd day Elk hunting, just finished putting my bull in the freezer, so went out yesterday morning on the other side on the same mountain on a cow Elk hunt. 100 yards, 338 barrel again.
Spotted a herd of 200-250 on a mountain 2600 yards away, put my buddies on the stalk...the entire heard came right to me.

I average 0.5 MOA groups at 100 yds with factory SMK 308. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. Depends on me and my wind judging ability. Practice, practice and YES more practice!

Very nice. Mine is on the fedex truck waiting to be delivered. TBAC 30BA won't be here for another 9-12mos.

It is a cyclone with the delta p adapter.....gonna give the adapter a try before I get it re-threaded and void the barrel's factory warranty.

Just plunked down part of the money for one of the DTA's for sale here on the hide. Can anyone recommend a quality 30mm scope mount solution? I've already figured that my low rings off of one of my 700s are not going to work too well for this thing.

Obviously the DTA will work, and is a good one, as are the Sphur and the AADmount, I run the later, and have loved it:

Received my A1 Covert and noticed there is a plug where the monopod goes. Talked to Ryan at DTA and he said chassis being shipped now without monopods will have the plug. This eliminates the need for DTA to stock two different skins. Super cool, now to get my hands on a monopod.

Ordered Date: 4/17/2013
Received Date: 10/10/2013

Two 308's: 16" Mega MA-Ten vs 16" DTA SRS Covert A1

They're getting better and faster every day!

I have the AADmount in 30mm and agree it is a great 20moa cant mount. I'm running a JP 34mm on my covert with MK6....also built well but has no cant. Most likely will never shoot past 600 with the covert so I think i'm good without it.

I ordered a suppressor from DTA in 12/2012 and still don't have a serial number so I can file my forms and wait another 6 months.

I know things are really back-ordered. Is everyone experiencing these kind of wait times? I was told in July I would have a SN for forms in a couple of weeks.

I love my DTA, but pretty frustrated.

You can't file transfer paperwork until your local FFL has the suppressor anyway. A form 4 is from a transferor to a transferee, and your FFL will be the transferor only when they have the can.

I know this won't help many people that have orders in but I found a new covert a1 on gun broker for a fair price that I picked up in person a few weeks ago. Dealers have them. You just gotta look around a bit

I ordered a magnetoSpeed V2 and it is enroute to me now.... I woke up in the middle of the night last night with the realization that the 16 inch barrel dosnt stick out of the hand guard very far...has anyone tried using a magnetospeed with a 16 inch on a covert? it says it can be used on a 2 inch supressor, could i just attach it to the handguard instead of the barrel? My chasis is still a the cerakote guy, does anyone know what the diamater of the front end is?
