I have read several threads in YEARS past that you could go to and check out someone's service record. But I didn't record the link. Can someone pass that back to me? A man I used to know was always talking about being in on the Normandy invasion. I would just like to know for sure. When I showed him a 1911A1 I thought he was going to go through the roof. He started saying that was a purely OFFENSIVE WEAPON. I told him I always thought it depended on what end of it you were on and what the other guy was trying to do.

Any way, thanks in advance.

I thought that handguns, although they can be used for offense, were by design a defensive weapon.

Or, maybe he was offended. Not all WW II vets I have spoken with knew one end of a firearm from the other. Enlistment rates were high and training was sporadic.

Sorry to be of no help with the link.

That's OK. I understand what you're saying.

I can't say exactly WHY... I just have a gut feeling. I hope I'm wrong. I sure did like that old man. He and his wife and me and mine shared a LOT of meals together at each others house.
