The gun I bought is an Armalite that was originally a 300 RSAUM....it has since been re-barreled in a 300 WSM. I own a 300 RUM and have some idea of its capability. This is the first time owning anything like this in an AR10 platform. I was wandering about performance? Barrel life? Just anything that may or may not help with this. One thing I have read is to stick with the 150-165 gr bullets instead of the heavier loads for jamming reasons....is there any truth to that?

I did contact Carl on this. Being deployed made the conversation difficult. I was just seeing what other shooters may have seen out of this gun. I was also looking for accuracy/performance with this caliber. What kind of yardage should I see etc.

I think the biggest issue with WSM and RSAUM in the AR10 is gas system length. The case volume and slow-burning powders pose a serious challenge with a standard Rifle-Length Gas System in the AR10, because you have significantly higher port pressure than a .308-based cartridge.

Extended-length gas systems are the way to go with the WSM's in the AR10 I think. Before using an adjustable gas block, consider one of Slash's heavy buffers.

LRRPF52, thanks for the information. I look into one of Slash's buffers.

What kind of performance should I see out of this gun since its a AR platform? 600-1000 yards possibly more?

Factory loaded HSM Berger 210 vld's @ about 2530 fps should stay supersonic til around 1250 yards or so.

Well that is the thing I was informed to run 150-165 (preferred)and 180 grain bullets. Due to feeding issues with the heavier bullets. I run the 210 vld's in my 300 ultra and love them.

The 155gr Lapua Scenar at around 3200 fps would rock out of that platform and stay supersonic til around 1350 yards or more. Very cool setup! The Berger 168 VLDs would be great too.

Crosshair,

Thanks for the information. I will find some 155gr Lapua and give them a whirl and see how they shoot!
