Best Cheek Weld stock

Hi,

I'm doing a precision AR build. What is the best non PRS stock to get a consistent cheek weld. I know the CAA/PRS will be the best, but I'm just not crazy about those. I've read a lot of good things about the B5 SOPMOD. How does it compare to the Bravo version? I don't need the storage, so cheek weld is my only concern.

i'm open to anything. I have not gotten to try many stocks, so I'm open to anything.

What is it about the PRS stocks that you don't like?

I guess I will be that guy...

I have the Magpul PRS on my DPMS SASS .308 and I love it. The adjustability is great both in LOP and height. To me it is very comfortable. I don't have to worry about cheek weld and/or eye relief as its always constant for me when I get behind the weapon.

The Larue RISR mod for the Magpul CTR is a decent option for higher cheek weld, though I tend to agree that the PRS is probably your best choice, despite it being heavy and a little ugly.

I do wish Magpul would update the design, it certainly could be better...

I can't speak for OP, but I also don't like the PRS. The LOP goes from "too long" to "way too long" for my preference. I switched the one that I had on my JP for a UBR and like it much better.

+1 I can't stand the LOP adjustment either. Other than that, the other features are useful.

I have a PRS on a precision AR15 which I love, but for various reasons--not all legitimate--I'm keeping the adjustable ACS stock on my precision .308 AR. But with that set-up, I can't get a firm, consistent and comfortable cheek weld.

So I'm trying this the Battleline Industries stock attachment.

Sadly, no range time yet, but I've done some dry fire in the basement, and I think it might work out. Plenty of adjustability, can be moved out of the way, and if I want a lighter stock, just pop something else on. The only downside is the steel plate is a little---uh---hard, but with some padding, it would be perfect.

Price and weight put you in PRS territory. But if that is a no-go...

I am partial to the PRS, however it's weight kills the deal. I use a standard A2, ring/scope setup is low enough I have no need for a cheek rest riser.

I have shot SOPMODS for years and will continute to do so. SOPMOD on precision rifles and Bravo's on carbines/SBR's. You can get a B5 SOPMOD for around $90.

Height over bore?

Fundamentally agree on the LOP issue for the PRS - love to see one @ 1" shorter. An A2 is pretty good but the LOP on the A2 is the same as the PRS fully retracted. The biggest bitch I have about the PRS aside from the LOP is the butt plate - too slick.

SOPMOD / EMOD / B5 all great except when it gets to be a chin weld (hard for ME to be consistent) - this is where the HOB because critical.

The MAGS LLC EFX-A1 is a decent option for a fixed stock. It's built to the shorter A1 LOP, which I find more to my liking than the A2 or longer PRS length. The cheekweld is great on this stock, lots of surface area at a nice angle. Overall weight falls somewhere between a standard A2 stock and the PRS.

Yall must have trex arms if the lop on the prs is way too long. Im far from a giant man but its perfect for me and my 5'2" wife has no problem with it either. The magpul acs is imo the best cheek weld stock out there if youre against the prs.

You really cant beat the prs with a monopod attached for a precision setup imo.

The Vltor, SOPMOD, plus Magpul stocks with a built up cheekpiece are all direct copies of the now ancient Colt Advanced Combat Rifle stock.

You've got different features with Vltor, SOPMOD, and Magpul stocks as to storage, sling mounting, buttplate angle, buttplate surface, toe design, etc. But, the cheek welds are all the same.

I use a PRS with my OBR, not because I like the PRS so much as because I need the vertically adjustable cheekpiece, since the OBR's 30 MOA rail makes it necessary:

I'm not a big fan of PRS, for me it is uncomfortable and jabs me in the cheek. My favorite for cheek weld by far is the LMT SOPMOD, it's nice and wide and comfy. I am also a fan of the standard A2 for cheek weld.

How much kit are you wearing when you shoot? My V2 vest, with that stock is a first AND second time no go. Sitting on at a bench and not having to support the rifle, I can see where you are coming form. I know it wasn't clear when I posted, but I was referring to actual on the job use.

On the other hand, what do you guys think about the UBR as a entirety? I am thinking of getting one over using my STR's.

The UBR is awesome! It's heavy, but rock solid, looks great, has room for storage, and good cheek weld. I outfitted mine with the enhanced buttpad and the striker plate, and am extremely happy with it. In the above setup, I can get a good cheek weld with a good view through the scope (mounted at 1.535 inches in a 20MOA Bobro mount). Only downsides are price & weight.

I think it will depend on the shape of your cheekbones, height of the scope, and the stock you use. I have been really fortunate that all my AR15/AR10 style rifles give me perfect cheek weld with the standard GI stock. I have tried the adjustable stocks, and I just don't need them. They look cool, but I can't justify spending that much money just to look neat when the standard stock fits me perfectly.

On my AR10, the length of pull was too long at 14.5/14.75 inches. I found an older (shorter) GI butt stock, that reduced the length of pull to the 13.5 inches that I prefer, and it is perfect. The longer receiver for the AR10 rifles makes for a longer length of pull, but the shorter GI stock only cost $10, so it was an easy fix.

I find the ACE stock with the foam RET cover pretty comfy. It's fine for a range rifle, but probably lacks durability for heavy field use.
