I typicaly try to purchase nice things out the gate but I went cheep with my first chrony and I have not been impressed. I have the RCBS chrony and wish I would have saved my $ and just got some thing nice out the gate. I read somewhere about a chrony that uses magnet sensors and attaches to the barrel? This sounded appealing. Looking for suggestions and some chronograph education. Overall best not factoring price, best bang for our buck, and then the somewhere in between. Thank you for your knowledge.

    Cheers!

    +1

    V1 for non-suppressed
    V2 for suppressed

Don't know how I lived without it but now we live happily together

Just got my magnetospeed from Bison Tactical in WY (save a few bucks on price and no tax to TX). He's got several and he ships fast.

Great device. I too thought attaching it to the barrel would be a show stopper....but after some thought, it's not really an issue to develop loads via OCW, then load several of the most accurate rounds to take some data. I'm not so sure my POI would even shift with some of my heavier-barreled and suppressed rifles.

From my experience the POI shift is different but still is consistent enough to use for initial load testing.

Not having to dick around with setting one up downrange, skyscreens and sky conditions and alignment more than outweight the POI matter.

I have a Chrony that I have used for several years that works well. Only issues I have ever had was working up black powder cartridge loads due to the smoke intefering with the accuracy of the reading.

Unless you like chrono and zero at the same time.

I've now had my Magnetospeed V2 on a minimum of 6 "target/tactical" type rifles (with heavyish barrels) and observed zero detectable POI shift - at 100 yards or 600 yards.

I don't doubt some people have, but I've tested quite a bit and simply not seen it.

Mine seems to match bullet drop at distance with no extreme clear sunlight. Clear and bright seems to be a bit optimistic. Knowing the tool is important. Seems like it should be simpler. My findings is that it takes warming up to.

Going out from what Sporter said...shoot the drops and run them thru JBM. You will be much closer than cheap (less than $20,000) chronys. JMHO

Magnetospeed is outstanding. Quick setup, works indoors and out, saves time developing loads. I do see minor POI change - easy enough to re-zero.

    Gi'day...

    Magnetospeed v2 is awesome.

I can confirm POI changes when I've bothered to check.
Even on a heavier barreled 700 PSS in .308W.

I HAVE noticed that one model of chrony, in particular, gave wildly different results based on temperature. This was Varget powder, supposedly mostly temperature insensitive.

But the results were proven to be rubbish on checking with other devices.

Lesson well learnt. A cheap chronograph is worse than worthless.

My Shooting Chrony Beta worked well for a year or so, then would get very inconsistent readings, and usually read "error." It did this regardless of lighting conditions, and I tried everything. The last time I was at the range, I accidentally shot it. Ten times. My next chronograph will be a Magnetospeed. I'm done with calling the range cold to spend 10 minutes setting up a chronograph only to find out it does not feel like working that particular day.
