I am looking to purchase a new cz 455 varmint. I plan to suppress it. All I see for sale is 20 inch barrels. After suppressing this would make it quite long. Are there shorter barrels out there or do I want the longer one? I think a 16 inch barrel would be best. Any opinions out there?
Thanks

if you are planning to suppress it, you can get it cut by the same guy that's threading it.

from personal experience, your not gaining much by the extra 4" (16 to 20). bunch of topics on that subject that'll come up in the advanced search.

i like 17" as there's no question of where to measure the barrel from with most local LE guys - they'll say it's from where the barrel hits the receiver, but it's from the bolt face when closed.

Thanks for the quick response. Two more questions. Gunbroker is listing a CZ 455 varmint 22lr 16 inch threaded with a laminated thumb hole stock. Any opinions on CZ factory thread jobs. Are they standard type threads that will fit most suppressors? Next, this laminated wood thumb hole stock, is it a stable enough platform or is it a gimmick.
Thanks

^ can't help you with the CZ threading question, but i'm sure there are many here that can (pun intended).

being left handed, most thumbholes to me are uncomfortable, but having an ambi thumbhole on my 455 aics airsoft conversion, i'm still on the fence with thumbholes. as my other rifles don't have thumbholes, i think i may go back to a traditional or target stock grip so that there is some muscle memory easily transferred without having to slightly modify my grip to accommodate.

to me (JMO) the thumbhole does provide a more straight back into the shoulder pocket presentation, but also introduces some gripping issues that are prevalent in pistol shooting. also carrying it feels awkward to me, and i guess that even though there is a hole and cavity there, the stock seems bulkier and heavier as the wood around it has to compensate for going around that hole and cavity. if that makes any sense, it could just be me.

i cut mine back like 1.5". they list the barrel at 20" from the face of the bolt, but its more like 19" from the action. i think the back of my can will start at 17.5" but ill have to measure. i have a Manners T4 and the barrel looks right with that stock and forearm length. if you want, i can take pictures with some measurements.

The Manners stock is a HUGE improvement over the factory stock, and if the T series stock ever becomes available it'll be that much better! I cut my barrel to 16.5" and threaded it. Still groups really well mostly under 1/2" at 50yds. Barrel still hasn't been broken in well either.
