Thought this would be pretty straightforward and easy.

Wanted to get a Safariland holster for my Sig 226 enhanced elite and was planning on getting a light for it in the next week so went with the 6280 model made for:

    (77421) Sig Sauer P226S, P226SO, P226R, P220R, P220S w/ accy rail w/ M3, M6, M3 LED, TLR-1, TLR-2, Insight XTI Procyon

This is the model 226 I have: P226 Enhanced Elite

When I put the handgun in it felt like it was going to fit, but as soon as I let go of the handgun, it simple drooped down in the holster like it needed the light attached to securely fit. Put the retention hood down and tightened the adjustment screws it didn't help; the handgun will wobble around all over the place. This is almost like it wasn't meant for this handgun.

A while back I tried a different Safariland holster again listed for the 226 with a rail but with the ALS system and was told by their customer service that 'newer' Sig 226s have issues with their ALS system due to Sig changing some dimension on the trigger guard. Now I've tried the 6280 and the gun flops around in it like its a size too small. This is starting to drive me crazy.

Contacted Safariland CS via email and I got a 'we do not rate holsters for the enhanced elite special run'; whatever the fuck that was supposed to mean, and got them on the phone with a women that I don't think knew what a handgun was.

I don't like the GCode holsters for the 226 and already have the Safariland quick attach system on my belts; this should be WAY easier and I can't understand why this won't fit. Is there some sort of trick with this specific handgun?

If you don't have the light on the pistol, it won't fit properly. That is part of the security of that type of holster. If after you get the light, and you are still not satisfied, I am sure you will be able to sell it fairly easily.

So it actually requires the light to hold into place correctly?

I was under the impression the handgun could go in without the light. This would make sense if true.

Some Safariland light-bearing holsters will allow you to secure the pistol without the light attached and some will NOT. I honestly don't recall which models will/won't work, but it sounds like the 6280 may be one of the ones on the "No" side of the aisle.

I have to run 2 holsters for my Glock 21 , one with a light and one without because exactly the same problem you mentioned, the weapon will just flop around in the holster without the light attached..

The 6280 is SLS only and WILL NOT secure the gun without the light attached. The ALS and the ALS/SLS combo holsters will secure the gun with or without the light attached.

    What he said.

Also, be aware that Safariland is not going to make holsters to specifically fit some of the variations of the P226. Some of the models (elite, elite dark, etc.) are different not only in the rails, grip, and trigger guard, but also in the slide width and checkering.

As has been said, that holster is designed for use only with the light. In fact, I'm pretty sure that when I bought mine a couple years back that it even stated it was for use with the light only. That model holster works great with that particular pistol when you have the light on, but it does not hold it well without the light on. That was the exact setup I picked up for a duty carry at my previous agency. Put a light on and be done with it.

Safariland 6320 duty and 6378 off duty (both ALS) for S&W M&P .40 with TLR1s holds the pistol securely both with and without the light. Just checked.

You just may be out of luck with the 226 model you have vs the more popular models that are agency issued.
