I have a Surgeon 7 WSM in a AICS and want to mount it up in a lighter weight stock for long range hunting. I am wondering about the feel and durability of the EDGE line of Carbon fiber McMillan stocks. Specifically, I was thinking of the A3-5. At 2.25 pounds, it would shave 3 pounds of the AICS. Any comments/experiences or suggestions would be appreciated.

I just put my 6.5x47 together in a McMillan A5 with the Edge Tech. The stock came in at 2.25 lbs. Very impressed with the fit and finish. You will not be disapointed.

Regards,
Paul

I have 4 Edge filled McMillan stocks and absolutely love them. One Hunters Edge, 2 700 mountain rifle, and one new Winchester Hunter pattern.

I have had three EDGE fill Mickys.
My GAP 7WSM on a 591 w/ Broughton truck axle, 5-25 PH and A5 EDGE was ~13lbs. Like a dumbazz, I sold the A5 w/M4 metal off to fund an XLR chassis. Now, same rifle is ~16lbs, and gained detach mag capability. Have shot the XLR for just over a year, it is a solid setup with super ergos and the Alpha mags run great. But lately, have found myself missing the old Micky and just snagged one (an A3) to switch back into.

I say, do it!

I have a half dozen or so and am switching everything over as I can. They're sooo nice.

I have several and really like the ability to shave some weight from the stock...usually allowing me a stiffer barrel for the same rifle weight.

They don't have the option for molded camo patterns due to the thinner shell and if you wanted to use it as a battering ram I'm sure "durability" might be an issue, but for normal usage they are great. Plenty stiff for such a light stock.

Idaho1, The EDGE technology is primarily designed for hunting stocks, not for the tactical stocks. The very light weight foam fill in the butt of this technology will not support any adjustable hardware options. You could get an A-3 or an A-5 with just a recoil pad and studs, but no adjustable cheekpieces with EDGE tech stocks.

I have a HTG with edge technology that I bought for my son's 260 rem. It is a very nice stock, however, I would not buy another one. When the stock arrived, I had an opportunity to weigh it next to a normal HTG with a light fill. They were within 2 ounces of each other in weight. I like the molded in color options that you get with the normal mcmillan stocks better than their painted options that are available for the edge stocks. My final analysis is that the normal stocks look better (to me), cost less, weigh almost the same and work just as well.
