I am looking for ideas for a lightweight compact reliable .22 to carry in my hunting pack. I have been carrying a 22/45 but it is just too heavy. I have thought about a mark III, beretta or woodsman type, but if I could find something smaller/lighter I think I would be happier. Thanks............

Take a look at Smith & Wesson Kit Guns. Small J framed revolvers that have been designed to and HAVE been carried in Sportsmans and Hunters "kits" for years.
I've got a 4" M-63 that I carry fishing, hunting, etc. IIRC it's 23 ounces. Mine is all SS.

They do alloy framed models that are insanely light.

My only other thought would be one of the little Walther P-22's but the one I had a dozen years back was such an unreliable POS unless they have sorted them out....never mind.

have a walther p22 for a good while, been a good light little pack pistol for me. also have a mk3 with pac lite upper thats pretty light and shoots amazing

one of the new 22/45 lite pistols or a 22/45 with a tactical solutions pac-lite is very light.

If you are looking for something smaller. I think the older S&W 2213 and 2214 pistols are great.

I have a Pac Lite on my 22/45, the old barrel is 551 grams, the entire gun now is 571 ish grams with the paclite upper. Thought it weighed less but had to check.

+1 on the 22/45 lite. It shoots great, has a threaded barrel and is lighter thana Sig Mosquito. Also not as picky on ammo...

+1 S&W model 63. Classic cool that keeps on working. great gun for training new shooters too

I have a s&w m&p22 and I absolutely love it, so much in fact I bought two. It's easy to maintain, very accurate, but it jams using cheap or old ammo. I use cci mini mag or equivalent and haven't had any problems. If you need to change mags alot (or quickly) while shooting you may want to file the inside of the magazine well, its a little rough around the edges.

+1 on Ruger SR23, longer threaded barrels are available

Almost forgot a 4” favorite; a Sig/Hammerlli that is Olympic accurate!

^^ This.

Designed for this purpose and you can't beat a revolver for reliability, IMO.

While it seems pricey and and reviews say the trigger pull is heavy at best, this Ruger LCR-22 seems to fit your bill pretty well. Ruger® LCR® Double-Action Revolver Models

At under 18 ounces empty, it is a kit packing dream with an eight shot cylinder.

I have not held nor shot one, so cannot help in that area, just thought it fit the bill for what you are looking for.
