So you guys helped me decide on a folder, now I need a little help with the caliber. I thought I was set on the CM, but now I am reading a bunch of stuff saying to stick with .260. My concern with the .260 is seating bullets to mag length and losing accuracy. Is that the case?

Too many unknown variables to give you meaningful information. It will depend on the specific dimensions of the chamber reamer used to cut you chamber, the bullet you choose to use, the barrel you select, and the list the goes on. I have model 70 260. It has CDI bottom metal and uses AI mags. I currently use a Barnes LRX bullet. Accuracy is great and I have no issues with magazine length. The gun will also shoot Berger VLD's quite well, however, they are too long for my AI mags. I can use Alpha mags and I don't have a problem. However, the alpha mags don't run as smoothly as my AI mags. I am told that you can remove the plastic strip that is in the front of the AI mags and you will gain a touch more length. I have not tried this. If you know already know what bullet you want to use, you can talk to your gunsmith about using a reamer that will allow you contact the lands and grooves without exceeding your overall length limitations of the standard AI mags. I shoot with a number of competitive shooter that use 260's they don't seem to have a problem with accuracy.

On my AI mags, I run my loads at 2.85 and accuracy is phenomal in my Surgeon 260. I could run the OAL even longer, but why mess with what works (for me at least).

I would be getting the AE MK III from Mile High. I am not sure what the specifics are. I just want to be able to run 130 or 140 bullets and not have issues with seating depth. I currently shoot a 6.5x47 and have no issues, but that is not a caliber option.

If you're doing a custom built, have your Smith use a reamer with a short leade. I can jam my 260 into the lands, still stay under magazine length and shoot in the low .2's. Gives you plenty room for throat erosion too.

Word to the wise: pick whatever they have in stock.
I've been waiting on a 26" 6.5 Creedmoor Bartlein barrel for my MkIII since October.....of last year.

That's totally unnecessary, lots of the sponsors/supporters here have barrels instock ready to ship. Grab one send it to a smith that knows AI and you're set. I ordered three barrels from Bugholes back in June, sent them off to my smith and been shooting them for a month. Mile High is great to do business with but there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Mile High usually has them in stock ready to go. A friend of mine ordered one and has it in a week or so.

Ordered the barrel from Mile High when I sent the money for my MkIII. Apparently they have 24" barrels, but not any 26" barrels which is what I wanted. Got a .308 I've been shooting, just remember that if you are in a pinch, better take what they can give you.

To the OP and the concern of losing accuracy, what bullet are you planning to use? I have an AW260 and have had nothing but great results. My o.a.l. is 2.905" with all groups being acceptable for a system that cost over $8400. Even with shooter error and mag length limitations, total of about 580 rounds, the gun has yet to produce a group over .9 MOA. I would go 260 out of personal preference but you cant go wrong with either caliber you are looking at. You shouldn't have any problems unless you are trying to use Berger VLD's.

I am currently using Bergers with my 6.5x47 and having great results so I wanted to have the option to stick with them. Anyone else shooting them mag length with good accuracy?
