GAP-10 Cleaning

My GAP-10 should be ready sometime in the next week of so, and watching the Mail Call Monday cleaning video got me thinking about getting the proper tools to clean my new rifle.

Can someone spec out of me the correct Dewey cleaning rod in terms of length and diameter for my rifle. My rifle will be .308 cal with an 18" barrel, with future surefire muzzle break.

Now I know this next question is very subjective, but how about bore guides? Are there any bore guides that work better on semi-autos than bolt guns? If so, could give me the specs on a bore guide as well?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sinclair and JP make great bore guides for AR's

For rods, get a rod for a 308 caliber. Length only matters if you are never going to use the cleaning rod on a longer bolt gun. If you aren't, just get a shorter <36" rod.

So is there a specific .308 rod or just go with the .27 & above rod?

Re: GAP-10 Cleaning

I ordered mine straight from Possum Hollow and got the solvent port to go with it. I wanted a Lucas but at the time he was not taking any orders. I do not clean my bore until after several hundred rounds as per info I found on here. I clean the BCG thoroughly and re-lube/grease, bore snake the barrel, clean chamber and test dry fire for proper function. I also found this nylon brush kit to be extremely helpful Ar10 brush kit.

And enjoy that rifle, hell of a gun IMO.

Re: GAP-10 Cleaning

If you want to one stop shop I'm pretty sure Dewey has a kit that includes everything you need - rod, jags, loops, brushes, chamber brush etc. I say I think because I am certain they have this kit in .556 AR and am supposing they make it also for .308 AR. I think the price was just north of $100.

Only thing in their kit I could see upgrading is the bore guide. I like the Sinclair guides.

I'll see if I can come back with a link. I think its the same kit used in the Mail Call Monday video as dewey links to it.

Re: GAP-10 Cleaning

Thanks for the replies guys. I dropped Mr Lucas an email yesterday and he replied he won't be open again for business till mid-march. With that I ordered a Sinclair bore guide and a Dewey cleaning rod. Should be good to go once my rifle arrives. Thanks again.

You running the SF brake Jon? If so I would suggest removing the break and cleaning the crown. I noticed after around 800-1000 I was getting a bad false crown from the build-up.
