Very exciting first deer hunt for my twelve year old. We put a stalk on this deer from about 1000 yards out. As we went prone however, a string of cattle began coming up the draw we were overlooking. My son had a good broadside shot and wanted to take it but we had to wait a good ten minutes until the last cow passed out of the scope view. He then calmly pulled the trigger of my Swede M38 in 6.5x55. The buck was slightly quartering away and the bullet entered mid section and lodged in the offside cape about six inches back his elbow. The deer dropped his rear, recovered, turned around limping, went down a six foot drop off, laid down and died, all within 30 seconds. We ranged the shot at 293 yards. The bullet was the Hornady 129 grn SST. Lots of internal damage. My son was elated to say the least.

Congratulations! What a great bonding experience. Nice choice for weapon. Nice rack too. All good in that photo.

It's Weaver K6 with a mildot reticle. I love those old steel fixed powers.

That's a darn fine first buck! Good to see that country is still growing some good ones! Congrats to you both, ever consider elk hunting in the breaks? ;)

Congrats! That picture will be a treasure later in life!

Job well done....thanks for passing on the gift of hunting.

Congrats to you and your son. What a great first deer. I used to go hunt near Glendive quit a bit. Great country and some very nice deer

That is a beautiful buck and a very nice picture. Congratulations on your hunt, that buck should make the wall for sure.

That's an awesome first buck, you guys will always remember hat hunt. The smiles say it all.

Congratulations! I stole my dad's swede many years ago after taking my first deer with it on one of our father-son hunts. I suppose he knew he would never get to use it after that hunt.

Good for him and you, beautiful buck. My daughter killed her first muley and antelope this year on our Wyoming trip. Her excitement on the hunt and kill will be forever a warm thought.

I took a cow last year in the breaks overlooking Fort Peck
