Im wondering if pointed a berger VLD 30 cal 190 gr bullet would have any negative effect to it performance on game? Anyone have and experience on this and care to comment how the bullet performed?

Thanks

I've shot small game with pointed Berger's… they die. Other then that what are you wanting to know? I would not opt for a Target VLD…. I would get hunting VLD's and point them. Thinner jacket will be better for dropping game.

I point bullets but not for hunting... I do not know what it will do as I have not tried it but I would assume closing the meplat would lead to delaying the bullet from opening. Likely not opening at all unless bone was struck.

Pretty sure a few big time hunters are running pointed Bergers and taking game as big as Elk down with no issues. Ive hit multiple coyotes with a pointed 140gr Hybrid. They don't do anything but hit the ground. ;)

Flat base loaded base forward might have best effect. J/K

The open tip of an open tip match bullet is an artifact of the jacket forming process and is not there for expansion. Closing that will likely not have any effect on the expansion of the bullet- especially the thinner jacketed hunting vld.
