Has anyone had an issue with the kinda/sorta limited elevation travel (19.something mils) in the Steiner 5-25x56? I'm looking at one of them for my TRG-42 in .338LM, probably in a canted Spuhr mount, but the amount of travel compared to the 30-ish mils available in the other scopes on my list (Bushnell XRS, Vortex Razor HD 5-20, etc.) does raise my eyebrows a little. If, however, those 19 mils are enough for a .338+canted mount, I won't worry about it and will start looking around to find a dealer who has one that I can look through.

DOH!!!!! I'm not sure what I was thinking but I just checked on steiner.de and they say 26.0 mils of elevation so I'm not sure where that 19 mil figure came from... (facepalm)

Even if you end up with only 19 mrad available, that gets 338LM out to about a mile or so.

That is far enough for me, but not for everyone, I am sure.

Shoot--at my density altitude (normal long-range shooting area is at ~7,000' ASL) 19 mils gets me to 2040 yards, per Bulletflight, and that's plenty.

I was running my Steiner MSR on my TRG 42 and I would recommend the 28MOA if your really intending to reach out there past a mile. I think I had some 22mils left once mounted. But frankly I preferred the 18MOA. I could get way the heck out there with the Steiner. It's a fantastic optic, tracks great and the glass is equal to my SnB25x.

But your talking about 19mills after mounted on a 20MOA mount perhaps. But yes it comes with 26mils total elevation.

You were most likely looking at the specs for the 4x erector system scopes. They have 19 mils of elevation in the turrets. The 5x systems have 26 mils. Germany suggests a 45 MOA canted base. That will get you the 26 mils if you need it.

26 mils limited by the double turn zero stop turret knob, 30 or so total in the erector.

With a 13 mil Spuhr mount I've got the full 26 mils available with a 100 yard zero.

I have a trg 42, I use a 13 mil Spuhr mount with a Steiner 5-25. Great setup. Couldn't be happier.
