Okay, not looking for a precision rifle. I have a Remington 700 in 6.5 CM that a friend built for me wearing a Steiner 4-16x50 Military G2. It's a half minute rifle and I love it but more than I need in the deer blind.

Here's what I'm considering.

1) Ruger Scout. It's a cool rifle IMO. CRF action. Aperture BUIS. I've shot a scout scoped rifle before and like the sight picture. Well built from what I hear, but I wonder about accuracy. I'd like to see better than 1.25 MOA.

2) CZ 550 FS. IMO one of the most attractive rifles out there. Very good sights. CRF action as well. Single set trigger. I don't think I would scope it. If I did, it would be a 2.5x, maybe 4x max.

So which one.

Thanks,

I have been thinking the ruger scout would be a fun one but im not sure how great out of the box accuracy would be.. shouldn't be to hard to make one a shooter.

I had a gunsite and will not own another. The action would bind like crazy and the bottom metal (plastic) always worried me. The trigger on it was bad at best. I've never had or shot a CZ550 but I have had a couple 527's and 452's and they are quality rifles. Manlichers are very nice looking guns too, I couldn't hunt with a rifle that pretty though. Between the two that would be my choice. I'm thinking long and hard about running a 300BLK in the blind next year as long as it's somewhere I know my shots will be 200 yards or less.

The ruger scout. My brother has one and its a fine woods hunting rifle. It is light, The barrel floats from the end of the scope rail onward. Trigger felt fine to me, no 1-2lbs but not overly heavy and breaks clean. But it sure is Damn ugly. If this is a fashion contest I'd get the Cz.

Edit, just checked the Ruger, as I'm watching over it while he is deployed. The whole barrel is free floated.

That CZ is a beautiful rifle!

I was going to get a Ruger GSR, but decided to go with a Tikka T3 Lite in .308 instead. Plan is to have the barrel chopped to 18 or 20". Same handiness as the GSR, but in a better built product for about the same cost. Can always add CDI bottom metal down the road if AI mags are desired.

Also consider a Winchester 70 FWT or FWT compact in the same price range.

Okay, stop the presses.

I've decided to pass on the Ruger. And while I'd love the CZ, I'd hate to screw it up climbing, hunting, etc.

I've found this>

Zastava M77. It's in .308, ten round magazine and 2-3 MOA accurate.

If you haven't bought it yet, Tikka T3 varmint comes in 20" barrel, .308, one tough, accurate rifle. Synthetic stock, Stainless Steel w/4 round detachable mag.
