Buttstock options for longer range ar use?

I have a DD V5 16" Mid length gas system, low profile gas block, Magpul MOE buttstock, Geisselle SSA-E, Vortex PST 6-24x50 SFP. I know this is not a long range gun but would like to see what it can do with better equipment. Wondering if anyone had suggestions for better buttstock for better cheekweld, length of pull adjustment, etc.? I might even change out barrels in future for better long range work. Thanks for the help.

Magpul PRS is actually the buttstock that I prefer.

How will PRS work with mid length ar? (Balance and function). Don't I have to change buffer and spring? How hard is it to switch from my MOE to PRS?

It's not hard at all. You will need a standard rifle buffer tube that is all. It's easy

Magpul PRS (precision rifle stock) is what I put on my M&P 10. I needed to replace the buffer tube, spring, and buffer for this modification. It does ride a little heaver on the tailend, but it's worth it.

Magpul MOE rifle stock has good cheekweld but it lacks the adjustability factor. The PRS does have the length of pull and cheek riser adjustability but it will cost you. Your MOE collapsible stock has the ability to take the Magpul cheek risers if that might be your only gripe, you can also change the buttpad on it. Just depends on what your issues are, too short of a length of pull or improper cheek weld with your optics. The cheek risers come in .25", .50" and .75" heights. Check out the Magpul MOE/CTR accessory section here.

I actually love the UBR over the PRS as it is slightly lighter, excellent cheek weld and extremely solid. Installed the UBR on my POF P308 and love it. UBR comes with its own buffer tube, I just had to buy and install a carbine buffer and spring.

Seconded on the UBR - I'm about 5'10 and the LOP on the PRS was longer than I liked. With a Larue low mount and my UBR I was able to fit a 50mm objective scope low enough that I didn't need the adjustable cheekpiece. For a taller guy or someone who likes a longer length of pull, the PRS might be ideal.

This might sound crazy..... But im a fan of the good ol A2 buttstock

+1 on this. I absolutely hate the PRS. The "hook" is too far forward and the flat rear sucks for using a bag. The A2's sling swivel is in the perfect place for support and the angled bottom is perfect for a bag. It's also a lot lighter. Use the right height mount and put it in the right spot and you won't need any adjustment.

The new magpul moe works well too

While I second all of the PRS advice above, you may want to look at Larue cheekwelds. I believe they make an add on piece for the standard MOE to add a cheek weld. just an option for you.

If you want a collapsable buttstock, look into the Battleline Industries SAPR. I like the PRS but its pretty heavy.

CSAR FE,
I don't care whether it is collapsible or not. I do want to use this for longer range shots even though it is a carbine I guess. It has mid length gas system and 16" barrel if that makes it a carbine. I use it only for longer range as of now. In future I plan to get either a precision Long range ar or bolt gun and then make this into home defense plinking gun with red dot. So....with that in mind should I have fixed or collapsible and what kind?

I'm a UBR with no doors kinda guy.

Magstang1,
I have thought about the UBR and the PRS. Is the UBR cheek adjustable? How is it compared to my MOE adjustable?

Wow ultraman 550,
That LEAP buttstock looks cool! What is price? How good are they? For long range work?

After having the PRS, I went back to a collapsable stock. My rifle is used for hunting and long range shooting. I did not care for the added weight and bulk of the PRS. It now wears a Magpul ACR and I really like how it handles.
