Does the tac338 require a 1.350" barrel? Is it a big deal to not use one?

I've read a ton on fluting, but what's your experience? Thinking about spiral fluting a 26"-28" 338 barrel....

Not a big deal. But I really like using at least a 1.250 shank barrel for a 338 Lapua. Remington uses a standard varmit contour 1.200. I'm building a Tac338 right now with a 30" barrel and gonna have it spiral fluted. I think spiral shaves a little more weight off. Tooter

MY builder recommended the 1.35" bbl for my 338NM w/ Stiller TAC 338 .... Greg @ Southern Precision

Far as fluting, I decided to not do it. Less bbl material means a less stiff barrel. My 338 is a beast, prolly over 15 lbs.

Fluting MIGHT save you 6-9 oz of weight, but will give you a less stiff barrel. (or so some people convinced me was true)

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like 1.350 is the recommended size.

What's stocks and everything are you all using. Thinking about an a1-3 or a3.
