I have a DPMS LR 308 with 16" 1:10" tw brl, & currently run 155 A Max with 44.1gr H4895 @ 2600 fps. Shoots sub moa. I'm wondering what velocity I might get running the 168 A Max with the same powder? According to Shooter if I can get it to 2500fps safely it will perform equal with the 155 but stay SS a tad farther, & have more energy.(for hunting)
Anyone have a 16" running 168's that wants to share velocity #'s?
    Thanks.

I am wondering if you have developed your load on the "low node" for your barrel. Most barrels have a low node and a high node. I shoot a lot of 155 A-max's and my powder charge is much higher than what you are showing.

Yes, after a fashion. I did shoot some older M118LR my friend gave me, but just a few, & didn't have a chrony or even zero them before shooting. So no useable data. I'm assuming with such a short brl I may have trouble getting a heavier bullet to a sufficient velocity to make it worth it. I am getting a few 165 FGGM from my friend to throw across the chrony soon. Just wanted to see what others were getting with their 16" gasers.

Perhaps, perhaps not. I have shot 168 SMKs through an 18" gas gun with really great results.

The other day I was hitting a 60% sil @ 920yd almost at will with the 155's. Accuracy isn't my concern. Which is why I'm looking for more performance. I have never been unable to get a bullet to shoot accurately. If I can get flatter trajectory, & more down range energy I'll give it a try but if I can't get a heavier bullet going fast enough to beat my 155's its not worth my time.

Ok looked at your OP. I was shooting a DPMS as well, the MK12 with 18". Your gun is really the same gun. Your going to get more out of the 168 at that distance. For the price point the LR is a fucking fantastic gun. Try some heavier stuff and I think you will be happy.

I am impressed with this little rifle. Has impressed a few of my friends as well with its accuracy. Right now its shooting around 1/2-3/4 moa at range with the 155's. 26moa to 750yd, & 38moa @ 920. But it's below SS @ 900 give or take depending on atmos. Shooter says that a 168 A Max going @ 2500 shoots almost exactly the same but stays SS 'til around 950ish, & has a bit more energy. So if I can get the 168 over 2500fps it should better the 155's across the board. The 178 @2450 falls short of the 168 about 900 again, so offers no real advantage. I'll chrony the 165 FGGM soon, & see where it is.

got to play with one of these 16in dpms and in heavy wind, out of adj and using mildots to estimate i was able to hit the 1000yd gong, i was using 155 sierra palma hpbt with 46.2 of RL15. chrono velocity thru my 26in barrel savage was 2936. i was able to hit it a few times once i got on but i was definitely impressed with that rifle. It took quite a few shots to get close. I know the bc is .504 compared to the .435 of the amax.
