What powder for 260 to reduce temp variation?

Hodgdon has their Extreme line advertised as being temperature insensitive. Any other temp insensitive powder makers?

i'm thinking I'm limited to Varget, H4350, and H4831 for this caliber if I want to avoid MVP changes with temperature.
 
H1000 works great too. If you can find those powders I dont think you need to look much further. Most 260 shooters are using h4350, h1000 or varget.

You guys are all saying h4350... Which is all I run out of my Gap 6.5 creedmor. But I went from 2796 fps to 2729 fps in a 40 degree temp drop. Maybe a bad lot I guess because my Retumbo and H1000 loads for my win mags are very minimal in loss of velocity with a big drop in temp.

Something else is at work here. H4350 is very very temp stable and in all my years or running it in all types of conditions I have never seen a drop like that.

Barrel, Brass, DA... something else is happening. How are you calculating velocity?

For minimal temp variance Varget is better than H4350. You will not be able to get the same velocity using Varget for 140's, but there is much less temp swing with it. H4350 is better than say RL17 for temps but in my experience still has some variance as Aimsmall55 noted above.

H4831SC is better than H4350 for temp changes also, but you can't get the same speed as H4350 because it's too slow and takes up too much case capacity to cram enough in there.

In my 260's I noted 40 FPS difference between 100 degrees and 25 Farenheit with H4350. That's not too bad at all, and I can certainly deal with it. In 22" barrels it was about 75 FPS more than I could get with Varget before seeing pressure, YMMV.

V2 magnetospeed, then real world drops at 1,000 and 600 yards. It's funny because the factory 140 amax is still popping VERY close to the dope I had in the summer time. It's very weird... Bc it doesn't really get effected by temp unless there is a SUBSTANTIAL drop ... Like 40 to 50 degrees. I'm running a GAP Crusader with a 27" bartlein. Using shooter and ballistic AE with my own atmospheric conditions entered to where I am like DA, ect. Brass is Hornady... Brand new and same lot. Everything is same lot.
I mentioned it in a thread and a fellow told me that the culprit is likely moisture getting in my cans and I can fix it with silica packs.
 
Also I agree ... I've never seen a temp swing on velocity anywhere near that with any Hodgdon extreme powder

+1 on the silica gel packs ! Any amount of moisture is bad mojo. With this cold and wet nasty weather here on the Western Washington Coast silica gel for the powder and Tipton Rust Inhibitor Chips with all the Die Sets and other Tools.
 
I've been shooting a 7mm WSSM this year, and H4350 has been unavailable. I found a good load using superformance over the summer and now that it is well below freezing up here in the mountains the load has not changed. At 1000 yards it hits a little lower, but adjusting the temperature in JBM accounts for this because of the denser air. So I'm pretty happy with it, though some day I would like to try some H4350 if it ever becomes available again.
 
Varget produces about 100fps less velocity than H4350 with 140s...but it shoots very well.
 
Here is another vote for H4350. I have had great success with it being very accurate, and temperature stable with every thing from 123 to 144 grain bullets. If you haven't tried the Lapua 144 bullet, I think you will be pleased with it. It's B.C. of .636 doesn't hurt anything either. There are a number of reasons that so many 260 shooters use, and recommend H4350.

I would suggest saving yourself time and money and start out with H4350, unless you already have a goodly supply of another powder on hand.
 
This is great info for the 260 Remington (which, I know, is what I originally asked about). What about a 260 AI? Because the AI version gives a little more room for powder, I was thinking H4831SC may be viable. I'm not going for maximum velocity -- if I can get a temperature stable propellent I can deal with the elevation holds whatever they may be.

And I'm taking it from the above conversation that nobody but Hodgdon has temperature stable powders.
