$1200 and under. 5rs are great shooters. You will be happy with it.

Pretty good gun. Stock is relatively solid for its weight but has a crappy recoil pad. I paid around 1095 for mine and threw it in a bedded manners. I had several loads that shot in the .400 range. Barrel did not hold much copper.
If its the green webbed mils pec. I've got one and LOVE it. I put a Jewell and a thruster brake on for added comfort. With my hand loads... I can usually print a 5" group at 1,000 yards no problem. 215 bergers ontop of 77 grains of h1000 is DEADLY
Also.. It shoots the 208 amax very well. And the 210 vlds. That's all I've shot our of mine.
But I'll tell you his... The 215 bergers run so good threw it.. It has gotten relatively routine at 1,000 yards

got my sendaro with the stainless fluted barrel from buds gunshop, for $1130 plus transfer from my local shop $40.
I just got my 5R in .308. Haven't been able to shoot it yet. Seems nice, stock is actually solid. I'm going to shoot it as is for a while.

Sendero's feature a 6 groove barrel and are fluted.. The H&S stock design on the sendero is also slightly different than the 5R, the sendero doesn't have the thick palm swell and wide forend that the 5R has. For factory rifles, they both shoot well and similarly. I had a 5R that shot .49" (3 shots) @ 100 with 208's / H1000 and have a Sendero that shoots somewhere around that. For the small investment on either rifle, they both shoot rather well considering. Not to mention, they can easily be tuned with a bedding and trigger job.
my sendaro came with the wide forend and the palm swell, that is the reason i chose it over the milspec 5r and it had the fluted barrel. the stock is for sale in the options and accessories you can look at the pics. i cant imagine it being wider forend and thicker palm swell.
Just looked at your pics and that is the same as the 5R stock. The stock on the sendero that I have is much slimmer.

I have a 26" 5R in 300 win mag - Buds - 1050.00. I changed out the stock to a 700P (preference) and bedded the recoil lug. Timney 510 Trigger at 2lbs and good optics and mounts. Every rifle is different, but I have tested some various store bought (Federal Fusion, Federal Deer Thugs, Winchester Super-X all 180 grain) ammo with all shooting right around an 1" - 1.25" at 100 yards. I'd love to find some match ammo to shoot through it, but I can't find anything locally for a decent price. I have some Forster dies and some 208 Amax I am waiting to tune to it, and I am hoping for that extreme accuracy. I am still trying to find some H1000. Throat is long on my rifle, but I can still use the magazine and put the Amax in the lands if necessary.
I had a hard time finally deciding to go this route over a custom. That kind of money is hard to gamble on when I read about Remington's quality control questions. My only recommendation is to compare the numbers to a custom especially if you are going to change out parts like I did. Do the math and have fun. Also, the Sendero is a very nice looking rifle...it was very tempting, but I could not justify the extra 200.00 (when I bought) just for flutes. That kind of money is really close to a custom barreled action, especially if parts are going to be changed out.

not sure there is data proving any difference in 5r to 6 left rifling. just your preference.
I've heard less friction, less fouling. But nothing has ever been proven.

Bob IIRC you probably have a first gen Sendero.
I would have to say it probably is.. My father bought it many years ago from a local sporting goods store off the used gun rack for less than $500 and it wouldn't shoot worth a shit no matter what ammo he tried. I sent it out for a brake, I bedded it and adjusted the trigger then worked up a load with 208's.. Now its a hammer!
I just got a Rem 700 Mil-Spec (#85508) 300WM with full diameter (no flutes) 24 inch 5R barrel. Muzzle is threaded 5/8-24 for a suppressor mount/muzzle brake. Barrel is bedded in the Aluminum block like the Sendaro. This is the same barrel used on the M24 sniper rifle, 5R 1:10 twist, X-Mark Pro Trigger. $1150.00 Haven't had a chance to fire it yet. Looking forward to working up some loads.

My 308 5R shoots great, I'm in the beginning stages of load development for my 300WM 5r. Personally I like the factory stock, with a triad stock pack its just about perfect. Good enough that I see no reason to spend a grand on a manners. Personally I think theyre about the best value out there.
I have also heard that fluting on a barrel causes the barrel to heat and cool at uneven rates causing them to be less accurate and that was from a major builder, don't remember who I will look for the article.
no sales tax, no transfer? Seems like a good deal. You see the prices above so you are saving about 150-200 dollars. I am picky when it comes to used rifles as I treat my stuff with a little more respect than others.
Sorry hazord, but it's not the same barrel. M24 is 1.2" shank, 5r is 1.25". M24 is .9"@ muzzle, 5r is .84ish. I heard the same rumor too when they first came out. Contract overruns, blemished m24, out of spec m24 barrels ..all that was recontoured to make 5r barrels. Remington said no they weren't, they just were regular varmint contours that had hammer forged 5r barrels. I beleive that Remington used bartlien in the psr contract rifle.
As far as flutes go...if done propper, on a cut rifled barrel there are no worries. Ai did tests on button rifled barrels and found some poi/poa drift during heat cycles. Frank green of bartlien cleared that up in another thread. The Remington that won the psr contract was wearing a fluted bartlien.

Sounds like a good deal. I scored one a while back for a little less than that. I painted the stock and had a bolt knob put on. It's a really good rifle for money.

I bought my wife a 5R Mil-Spec in 300 WM. Had a Holland muzzle brake and put an older factory Remington stainless trigger in it and tuned it up a bit. I bedded the stock and had my local gunsmith install a PTG AI mag bottom metal on it. Then I Duracoated the barreled action and bolt Combat BLK. After break in, the gun shoots about a half minute with me and about a minute with her with 190 gr. SMK's I load up. (She thinks she's a better shooter than she is but shes getting there.)
In my opinion, for a factory gun that can be had for right about a grand if you look around, they are a great option. do a little work to them, they are real shooters.

I was told that information by the company Rep from Acusport. Acusport had placed the order with Remington and they were supposed to be the exclusive dealer on that particular gun. I understand what you are saying and thanks for the info. Maybe the guy thinks that any unfluted 5R 300WM barrel is M-24 grade.
To clear up the misinformation going around, and how the 5R relates to the M24, here's the deal. I called Remington, and confirmed the only relationship between the 5R and the M24 (besides the rifling type) is they are both built on the same assembly line, away from the assembly line that makes the other bolt action rifles. I didn't confirm this with Remington, but I heard from a reliable source (way back in 2002 before anyone knew the rifle existed) that the MilSpec 5R rifle was originally produced for an unnamed Govt. Agency, and Remington decided to offer it to the public after the Govt. Contract had been fulfilled.

Last year, I think they did a limited 10th anniversary edition that may have been numbered? Other then been numbered and labeled, there was no difference that I'm aware of.
