Hornady list same specs for 208 Amax and their 208 hpbt
is the red tip -or the hp tip the only difference between the two ?
Ive allways used the amax & love them - but now it seems they are made from unobtainium
and the bthp are in still available
and for a buck cheaper a hundred

AMAX
AMP Bullet Jackets (Advanced Manufacturing Process).
Best ballistic coefficient possible.
Profile delivers low drag and flat trajectories.
Swaged lead core provides uniformity and consistency.
Unmatched accuracy at long distances.

*Match bullets are not recommended for hunting.

Not sure on your question, but I'm pretty sure they "suspended production" of the hpbt.

The bthp bullets have a slightly lower BC than the amax, but slightly better than SMKs (at least the 168s). I wouldn't be shy to try out some 208 bthps if you can get them.
