I'm just starting to work up a load for my savage in .308. I've shot factory 155gr A-MAX Hornady loads that the rifle likes, so I started there with bullet choice. My main problem is looking at prefer charges using Winchester 748. I've seen 45gr to 46.7gr to "50gr+" listed as max loadings.

Does anyone have any experience? I'm not sure where to start my loads with such a wide range of max loadings listed. The 45gr charge I just loaded looks pretty close to a compressed load.

Here's my results for my 200m ladder test. I have no idea what to make of it.

748 isn't too far off from 335. A book would probably list the max at about 45, but let the rifle do the talking.

I shot from 41.0gr-46gr this morning with no drama.

I have no idea where to go from there.

looking at your shots my guess or what I would do is work up the 2 nodes I see. Being 1) 41.5 grains to 42 grains. 2) 44.6 to 45 grains. Let us know what you get. I have never tried 155's only 168's nd 175's in my rem 700

if you find IMR 8208 XBR i've had great luck with 44.6 grains and 155 Amax out of my 700
