putting one on 5R 300 win. how well does this brake work? it's my first brake. any feed back would be appreciated. some say it's fugly, I don't think so, I would rather have funktion than than slimness. Can't wait to try her out for the first time to see how much difference it will be. Hav'ing put on and a thread protector made by Karl feldcamp, should have her back this weekend. I see he has done some beautiful work on a lot of hide member's guns.

Stylish & pretty it is NOT . But ---> ' It is the most effective design Brake ' <------I have ever shot though on a shoulder Fired magnum rifle .
When placed on the muzzle it even tamed a model 70, light weight hunter in the cal. of ( .300 Weth. Mag. ) down to where I could fire it holding with only one hand when sitting on the Bench . But it is as you say, " Butt Fugly " .
.

that's what I like on the hide, real world feed back. so I should go ahead and get one for my 375RUM. BDL HS stocked deer rifle? After 3 shot's from the bench my eye's are rollin around in my head. to say nothing of a slight flinch!

There are other brakes that work almost as well without being " fugly".
I will find the vid and post it here

Go for it gatorbait. I have a buddie whose dad had a shoulder surgery and they had the JP installed on his 7 mag tc encore and it is awesome..fugly, but awesome

I've believe I seen that one. The gun was a 338LM, that flew about 15 feet with out the brake and only about 8 inches with the brake on. I actualy like the looks of the tank brake. to each his own . My buddy and I both have the same guns and brakes,so it's a even compitition contest kind of thing. it's for fun and learning how to shoot long range together. There are a lot of other brake's out there,we just went with this one to try them out. thank you for the reply. shooting beyond 400 yrd's is relitivly new to us,! actually finding a safe place to shoot longer ranges is the hard part.

I have a 3 port Armalite brake on my AR and a friend installed a JP tank brake on his AR. No comparison between the two, JP's brake out classed the 3 port by a large margin.

I have one on my LWRC REPR 18". effective as all get out and ugly as sin.
Be advised, on a crowded range you won't be very popular with the shooters on either side. The thing is LOUD and the pressure wave will blow a poorly fitting hat right off the guy next to you's head. That with just a puny FGMM 168 load in 308 Win.

X2! They were standing shooting free hand and I was standing 15 feet behind him and it definitely rattled my sphincter

sounds interesting, I'll have to double up on ear plugs and be thoughtfull of bystanders and starting brush fires while shooting prone. researched to find this brake to be the most efective per say. will be working up a good load once I can shoot more strings accuratly. think I'll start with 190 SMK.

Ugly as heck. That said I just picked up a B Cooley brake. The reviews I've seen have been all positive.

Also since your going with a brake double hearing protection and don't be "that" di** head on the line blasting your neighboring shooters away. Be aware of your muzzle blast.

I felt and heard brake blast before. and I am aware of it and bystander's. thats what I meant also about a safe place to shoot.

Have one on my 338LM, her name is JUSTICE. Works great. Haven't had many complaints from folks on the line, either. This is a heavy rifle, as it has a 34" barrel, but the recoil is tamed to a gentle push on the shoulder. Makes my 30.06 seem downright nasty in its kick, in comparison. My 30.06 is going for a rebuild this winter, Saturday, in fact, and it will be kitted out with a JP time it's done.

Yea I just out that note out for brake shooters to be courteous of other shooters. Because I never knew of the blast until one day at the indoor which is close lanes a guy was shooting a 5.56 with a massive brake and was actually blowing my eye protection up off my cheeks.

Then I found out some shooters get off on making other shooter move away from them and effecting the rest of the firing line. I don't see that as proper shooting adequate or safety so I just post a reminder for brake shooters to not be "that" guy at the range and think of others especially with these massive brakes.

But I'm glad you have a mind to be aware of other shooters.

Sniperuncle thats a mean looking machine, take's up most of that table!...and thats a big table!!!

Yep, had to get a drag bag from Aim Field Sports in England, only one I could find to fit a 59" rifle! Shoots great, too. My wife has been shooting 5.56 for a couple years now, trying to gather enough courage to try my 30.06. She shot the 338LM at 1035 yards, first time above 200 yards, first time on the 338LM, and hit the first three on a 30" gong. If it allows her to shoot a 338LM comfortably, it must work pretty well!

JP Brake on a 300 Rum works great. I could care less about "looks" I shoot on private range so there is nobody next to me. The Bastard Brake looks good in the video but I can't see changing . I got my JP from a friend for free . He went with a can. I might try a Bastard on the next build just to see .The Jp would be hard to beat.

I've got the Jp's on two different T/C Contender barrels, they work GREAT even with the limited amount of powder used compared to the 338 LM, 338 RUM, ect. There is one brake I can't find the details on at the moment, that looks interesting, 3 ports with the rear port cut to direct the gases forward at about a 45 * angle to the bore, I guess the theory is that the forward gases help deflect the gas & noise at lease at a 90* to the bore as opposed to at an angle backwards. It also has 3 holes on the top to eliminate muzzle rise

FNARSHOOTER will put a JP on my 375RUM for sure. my brother won't shoot it. I'll let him shoot the 300 win.mag. first, with and without the brake so he can feel the dif. I know it will work fine, just can't wait to try for my self!!

TOP PREDATOR seen your gun on here and looked at it lot's of time's. love that camo. one of the reasons I started learning about brakes was to find out what that was on your gun. now I know. thank you. soon I'll really KNOW how it works.

BAD DOG0302 that brake sounds interesting, there are so many now that I been learning about. it seems everybody is making a new one of differant desighn and style.

yeah, it's ugly as hell, but it works. i cut my barrel down, and being too cheap to get it rethreaded for the JP, i went with a clamp on style witt brake - plus it's more field friendly. no complaints with that one either, though i do believe the JP takes out more recoil. you almost feel like the rifle is moving away from you.

thanks on the krylon.

BTW i don't know much about threading and stuff or what it'll fit, but that JP pictured is sitting in my closet with about 1.5" of savage factory .308 sporter barrel taper in it, $20.00 + shipping if anyone can use it. mics @ .347

I have a 1.5 straight taper barrel 375 cheytec.....can you make it work....I can thread the barrel to match the brake.

Not seen this brake b/4.....who has used it dose it work ???

Have one on a 300 Win mag. As stated above not the most attractive but outstanding in its performance of reducing recoil. It is loud but I feel it is not as bad as the others on the market. No one should be closer than 15'to your right or left when you are shooting due to the angle the muzzle blast exits the brake.

I Just received an Assassin muzzle brake from Jerry at JE Customs. It's a beauty and he can even tune them to your load for up to 70% reduction in recoil. Here is one of his youtube videos where he measures recoil reduction

pretty neat feeling your pant leg flap due to the percussion with the one i have on the .308, .300 win must be a real "blast".

seeing hits on target is pretty interesting too.

Gatorbait, i returned your PM.

They dont call it a recoil eliminator for nothing. I've never felt a more effective brake than that honkin' JP one. But man is it ugly.

I know the unbraked recoil is quite a bit less than that of a .300 WM, but I put a VAIS brake on my Remington Model Seven in 7mm SAUM (which is a pretty light-weight gun...) and it turned a kinda-hard kicking rifle into a pussycat. Honestly it kicks slightly more than my Grendel AR with that brake installed.

Vais Arms Inc.

.300WM is right in this brake's sweet spot. Here's a blurb from their FAQ's. Ron Bartlett (the owner) is a great guy, and will answer any questions you have.

A. Our Vais brake is very efficient at recoil reduction. Exact percentages for recoil reduction cannot be listed for each caliber as it varies depending on bullet weight, barrel length, weight of the rifle, and in some cases even the powder used. Recoil reduction of up to 50% is common with the large 7mm and 300 magnums. On rifles such as the 270 and 30-06 recoil reduction of 40% is common. The reason for the difference is the magnums have a much larger muzzle blast and more energy for the brake to work with to reduce recoil. Big bore rifles such as the 375 and 458 are harder to tame down for two reasons. The heavier bullets produce more recoil and the larger bores burn the powder faster. This leaves less muzzle blast for the brake to reduce recoil. Average reduction for these calibers is 30% to 35%.

And it looks really good.

I will make one last comment on this thread, the instalation of the brake on my gun by karl feldcamp is flawless, the barrel and brake look like one piece. it's perfect!!! 100% thank you karl and snipers hide.
