I wanted to get a Kidd receiver but I didn't know if I had to get the magnum receiver to shoot HMR, Will their standard receiver work, I don't see an option for the "magnum"? Does anyone have any pictures and how did you like the 17 HMR round?
You have to have the magnum receiver to shoot the hmr. Further more they usually are not safe. I have had three 10-22 mags that I converted over to 17 hmr and had problems with them all. I got 500,650 and 2000 rounds out of them before major un safe problems. Just a sucker for a semi auto gun in 17hmr. Finally just decided to buy a volquartsen. They don't have problems.
+1 for just buying a Volquartsen. I found a Classic with 12X Leupold and 1,100 rounds of Hornady 17gr locally for less that I see stock 10/22 magnums selling for online.
I got mine last January. I may have gotten a better deal at that time because everybody wanted ARs at the time. Picked up a pristine 64 MPR during the same timeframe.
Edited to add that a WTB ad on RFC is how I got my Annie. You might try that on RFC and other sites as well. Good luck
I zero'd in my dad's 17hmr volquartsen and it shoots great at 100yds with a 4-12x vortex diamondback. I haven't shot any further than that but from a 50rd box of hornady 17hmr, it was under 1 moa. I know it can probably shoot better with the right person behind the rifle.
I'll try to get a picture of the group if I can find it.
This is a very untrue statement. I'm not bashing Volquartsen. I think the rifle I received was too notch... I just think I got one that slipped through the QC checks. Ordered it a year ago at shot show, received it Friday night. Decided to mount my scope and start by siting it in. On the 6th round it blew up on me... Powder burns to my face and thank god for safety goggles or I'd probably be missing my eye.... Pictures are as follows
So they still have issues. I was using cci 17 hmr 20grn fmj bullets...
Yea man that's the second gun to blow up on me. First one was my glock with some really hot reloads I had bought at a gun and knife show... Needless to say I'll never do that again, this time it was a gun I've been waiting a year for. I think that sucks the most. I'm anxious to see what volquartsens smiths will say caused this. I've been in direct contact with Scott Volquartsen and so far I don't have any complaints. He's aware and dealing with this situation promptly even though he's at shot show this week. So tbh I'd advise anyone to not build these rifles.... Get you a proven one. I think I was just a little unlucky... It happens. Just glad I was wearing my safety glasses.
