Good morning all! I've been a member of the M14 forum for about a year now and occasionally see this site referenced as a good resource for long range shooting. I currently own a Springfield Armory M1A Scout and have been thinking about getting a "1000 yard" rifle although my marksmanship skills certainly are not up to that level at this time. I have been leaning towards and acquiring USGI parts for another rifle in the M14 style mainly for logistical reasons because ammo, parts, maintenance, etc. all go hand in hand with my M1A. However, it looks like I can put together a bolt action rifle equal to or better as far as accuracy than the M14 format for less $$.

Right now I'm looking mostly at a Remington 700 in .308 caliber and looking forward to researching and learning about the capabilities of this set up. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions. Once I decide on a rifle, I'll be asking about glass.

Welcome to the hide from a fellow SEPA shooter. I got into LRS with a Remington AAC-SD 20" .308. Once you start, you'll be hooked. Tanners Sport center in Jamison had the AAC-SD recently for just over $500. You don't find a better deal than that.

Welcome from SEPA.

I don't own a bolt gun but run a POF P308 for precision shooting.

Welcome from a SEPA transplant now living in Central PA.

Be prepared to spend money on stuff you didn't know existed and now think you can't do with out. I have learned lots just reading here on this site.
