I load a lot of Lake City 308 Brass...I start a grain less than my normal load and work upwards until I find pressure signs. I load 44 Grains of Winchester 748 with Sierra 175's. I find lake city brass to be robust and last through numerous reloadings. I do like the Lake City M118LR brass over machine gun brass that gets beat up.

I'm running .7gr lower than my standard load with LC match compared to Winchester brass. 42gr of varget with a 168smk shoots great for my semi.

I bought a Hornady primer pocket reamer, too.

You do NOT need that.

Also what weight of pill are you thinking about using? It's pointless to ask about charges without also including the bullet weight or at least include the twist rate of the barrel in question. Anyone can say " XXgr with a 175gr pill" but if the twist wont support than then what good does that do you? The non-LC-LR brass is good but its worth finding and paying extra for LC-LR once fired which is far better.

I know I dont need it but it will make seating the WLRs a bit easier if I get the crimp out of the way first, I've loaded LC 308 brass before, I used a chamfer tool that time, did a pretty good job. Guy at work wants a 180 grainer, I'll load him some 180 Hornady SPs with 46grs 2000MR I think. Yeah, this is machine gun brass, but says it's been polished fwiw.

The problem I have with the machine gun brass is that it's BIG. I mean, the chambers are big, so the brass is too. I still haven't found a good way to squeeze that brass into a sizing die without feeling like I'm going to break the press or get the rim torn off and the case stuck in the die, and I already tried Imperial sizing wax. Someone told me to try RCBS Case Slick spray. Haven't tried that yet. Is the current standard LC brass still being run through M60s?

Home made case lube using lanolin and castor oil. It can be added to 99% iso or ISO heets for a spray application. I size it on a Super 1050 for fully prepping. Easy peasy.

No, to answer your question at the end.

being a white tail hunter myself in good ol Wisconsin this is my go to hunting round & plinking ammo for 300yards or less....

- lake city once fired brass 7.62
- hornady 165grn interlock soft point boat tail
- 43grns of varget
- small kiss of a crimp (for unloading & loading the weapon)
- CCI 200 primer large rifle

BTW, I will share one of my best kept secrets. Not only is this my WI deer hunting load, but is also one of my fav plinking loads with sub-moa results out of my LMT. $24.99 per 100pcs 165gr interlock soft point WITH BOAT TAIL!! This is one of the few reloads that I'll put a small "kiss of a crimp" on the bullet.

Bought some once fired LC brass on Amazon for a fellow at work that's getting low on 308 hunting ammo, so he asked me if I wanted to load some for him, about the only 308 brass i can find is the LC stuff, so what are you guys running in your LC brass for deer and such? Yeah, I bought a Hornady primer pocket reamer, too.

Well that may be why I'm not hearing about others having this problem with the latest batches. My LC cases were all M60 fodder. I didn't even know the M60 went bye-bye. Guess I should keep up on things a bit better. Thanks for the lube tip.

I'll have to compare the LC brass to my Lapua brass and see if it's much larger, and Ill be using mink Oil for a lube.

So how's your rifle shoot with this load?

I'm shooting 178 amax at 2741fps with 44.3 varget and cci mag primer in 03 LC LR brass, lapua is 44.7 all seated at 2.82

I run 44.5gr of varget behind a 155gr amax. 43.3gr of varget with a 168 amax. Both loads seated to 2.800". They're not the fastest loads but they shoot good. Also this is with '88 LC brass.

I run 43 grains Varget for 178 bthp. Its right at 2610 fps out of a 24 inch dpms, seated at 2.8. I also had machinegun fired brass. My best advice is to get a case length gauge and use a lot of lube, it'll come back to shape.

43gr IMR 4064 & 168 amax / 168 smk / 175 smk

That works in all of my 308 rifles.
