As a gun owner, one of the worst things that can happen to a person is knowing exactly which gun you want, and how you would build it, but not having any money to buy it, let alone modify it afterwards. The next worse thing that can happen is knowing where there is one for sale locally, which can be made worse still when it's close enough that you could go get it but not close enough that you can just go to look at it. But what I need is a word that describes the soul crushing pain that comes from knowing the above and then having one come up for sale used, modified exactly the way you want it, and still not having the f@#$&!% money. It's even cheap enough that if the barrel is shot out I could send it to GAP to be re-barreled and still pay less than it would cost new. I was thinking FUBAR would be a good expression but I am open to suggestions.

    Niggardly.

And before anyone freaks-out, it means miserly.

Hmm. I am now mildly confused. I am not certain if I am getting mocked for something I meant to be humorous or if I missed something in the thread that is causing me to perceive the situation thusly.

    Welcome to the 'Hide.

I know of what you speak. The word you are looking for is already known to you but now you have the dimension of deep human pain with which to utter it. Behold:

    Fuck.

Now we're getting somewhere. Still, I am going to hold off until the auction is over in three days to decide how I shall apply the word. If it gets up to about $1000 more than it is now, I may not use the word. If it stays close to where it is now, I shall use the word vigorously, along with several variations thereof. I may also use the words shit, damn, bitch, bastard, ass, and hell.

Edit: I feel the need to modify my above statement. I will be using one of the words before the auction ends. Another rifle I was watching failed to attract bids, didn't sell and was relisted. It was relisted at a price $450 lower than before. I still can't afford it. F#%#.

The Germans have you covered on this one.

    Weltschmerz

The psychological pain caused by sadness that can occur when realizing that someone's own weaknesses are caused by the inappropriateness and cruelty of the world and (physical and social) circumstances.

instead of looking for a word to describe what you cant afford why don't you just stop looking for guns you cant afford.... PROBLEM SOLVED !

or better yet win the auction tell him the money is on its way and then never contact him again....hahahaha jokes on him

What's a word for the systemic reallocation of a not insignificant portion of the federal reserve notes in ones savings account into guns in the safe and ammo in the closet?

Getting very close to dropping multiple F-bombs. Auction ends in 4 hours and someone is going to get what is functionally equivalent to a M40A1 for $1500. Remington M40XC 24" barrel in a M40A1 configuration McMillan HTG stock with stainless M40A1 style bottom metal. I am not particularly worried as I am fairly certain bidding will spike now that it's getting close to the end. I figure it should sell for at least $2000. Way out of my budget.

The proper term is delusional; i.e. the illogical craving for items one will never be capable of possessing.

Another term would be average consumer debtor...

It wasn't that I couldn't afford it. I just can't afford it right now and it happened to be for sale. I could save up the money within about year but it obviously is not going to be available in a year. I'm just have to wait for the next one, though it probably won't be nearly as cheap as this one sold for.
