Sig516 Legality Question.

I just purchased a Sig516 with one of those arm brace deals attached.

My question is, what legal issues will i have if i or my wife decided bot to strap it to our arm and just shoot the weapon like an AR. Would we be breaking the law as soon as our cheek touched the arm brace? Using it as such would basically be using the weapon as an SBR in my opinion and the last thing i need is legal issues just because i didnt strap it to my arm.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Yea i looked over that a few hours ago. From what i gathered it seems that since the weapon is classified as a pistol in its present state then im obviously ok to own it. Additionally, i could not find a law requiring me to shoot the weapon in the intended manner. Therefore, i think i should be ok. The problem is the part where i said "i think" lol.

From what the guys at the gun store said, they have cops buying them all the time and i highly doubt they are using it as intended. I think my biggest concern is problems at the range. Not all ranges allow class 3 and this can easily be mistaken as such. Especially if im not using it in its intended manner.

Sig516 Legality Question.

Read the fourth paragraph of the letter.

If you fire a rifle one-handed, without using the stock, does that rifle become a pistol?

Well as far as the ATF in conserned, as long as the weapon meets certain specs then it is considered a rifle, shotgun, or pistol. I could shoot it upside down and i dont think they give a crap lol.

I think my concern is with tne fact that this brace makes for a functional stock even if it wasnt meant to be one.

Ill just call the local cops and ask them what they would do if they saw a guy at the range doing what i intend doing (not using the brace as a brace). I guess it just depends on which cop sees me and how they interpret the law.

At this point, the ATF seems to think it's legal. At one point, they held that same view towards the Akins Accelerator, until they changed their minds. Maybe this'll remain legal, maybe not. Honestly, I don't like it, but that's just my opinion, spend your money as you see fit.

Check out how to shoot the SIG 516 pistol with the brace at 6:23 (they say it's the 556 but it isn't)...

Maybe it's ok to do that in Vegas because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. :)

Been busy with school but I ended up finding the answer by asking the ATF directly when an agent came to my school to recruit. Also, it seems there was a Police Officer who had the same question and wrote the ATF. The response given to him has been floating around for a short time and was also featured on the Military Arms Channel on YouTube. Basically I'm safe to shoot it as is I have been and I intend to do so.

Once again thanks to all who responded and I'm sorry it took me so long to thank you for your time.

YOU CAN use it as a stock, google, theres a letter u can down load from the ATF incase any goober PD wanna make a stink. JUST DO NOT TAKE THE STRAPS OFF! LEAVE IT AS IS

Guess I should write the ATF and ask if I can put arm straps on an A2 stock so I can have something less fugly on my pistol.
