Official (DTA) SRS, HTI, Covert, Hunter Thread

Down at SHOT and nothing new to report at the DT booth as it pertains to the SRS or Covert platforms. DT will have a new chassis system for the Remington 700. The new Bullpup semi looks promising, but is still over a year out.

is dta, willing to make a video and load on there youtube chnl? complete rifle, chassis and trigger assmbly break down and clean?

Standard type with a side folder that will run a DTA monopod. I will try to get by there again today and take a picture.

A special trigger and moving the action just behind the grip should work. I think it would give enough internal clearance for the bolt, and the trigger has already been done (*cough* SRS *cough*).

R7S Remington 700 short action chassis

Good info from TheBelgian.

The R7S is a folding Rem 700 Chassis with a Monopod. It uses the same fore end as the A1 with removable rail sections. The rear end has rapid adjustments for both length of pull and cheek height. The folding mechanism is rock solid when out with no "wiggle" and covers the bolt when folded (pretty cool!). I was told it will be around $800, and the monopod can be added at any time for $300 more. In my opinion, this is a damn tough contender both quality wise and price wise for any R700 chassis currently in production. When you add the monopod (one of my favorite parts of the SRS) it is in a class of its own.

The Semi is just sexy! I wish I would have gotten more time with it, but it was certainly the bell of the ball. Trigger is 1000% better than the Tavor. It has a forward mag and bolt release if I recall correctly. Uses DPMS family of 308 mags (Pmags). The charging handle is in a great position, and it just looks and feels bad ass.

I was told the 5 calibers were:
308
5.56
6.8 SPC
300 Blackout
7.62x39

There will be mag well block inserts to accomidate the 5.56 and 7.62x39 magazines.

All in all, a very impressive showing from DTA.

For you guys looking for 6.5 Creedmoor loads. Try these:

139 Scener
41.6 H4350
Seated 2.252" at the ojive measured with Hornady comparitor
Any primer

140 Barnes Match Burner (yes, Barnes.....its the poop!)
42.1 H4350
Seated 2.224" at the ojive
Any primer

Both will shoot tighter groups than I am capable.

I received my A1 from Short Action Customs this week and I have one question...

when was the creep adjustment eliminated?

Yep, for the trigger. There is nothing to adjust in front of the trigger. I have the rear screw turned fully clockwise and have a nice crisp break right around 4lbs, which is perfectly acceptable for my liking.

Besides this, is there anything else I need to do (cleaning, oiling??) before I get to shoot my SRS-A1? What about "breaking-in the barrel"?

It's been test fired, so just mount and level your scope. Then, get your 100 yard zero dialed in and start punching steel at 500 or longer as your cartridge will allow. You'll be amazed and pleased. Enjoy and clean the barrel sparingly when accuracy fades. Get bore guide and BoreTech cleaning supplies (no brushes). Lube and clean bolt and bolt face regularly, but let your barrel just do it's job as long as your groups are tight! Good Shooting! Have fun and be sure the share your prize with others at the range.

MDR/MDRC is all fine and good but when are they coming out with the higher capacity mags for the SRS/HTI that have been in "developement for years?

Glad to hear this! Exactly what I was planning on doing : )
Instead of a cleaning rod I was thinking of using a BoreSnake. Any thoughts on that? Pros & Cons??

you say no brushes......... but which are you speaking of, cause i asked about the cleaning and hole rifle trigger assembly break down. so when i ordered the a1 i ordered everything dta had to offer from the company. so i have to the hole field cleaning kit, and brushes came with it. also i was told difference, about cleaning the bolt and barrel. now im not saying anyone is wrong or right..... but id def like to strip it down properly. if u don't mind you willing or know of someone to make a video of all it. thank you, any ideas im all very open too, just don't want to f**ck anything up

I'm pretty sure sib1948 meant no bore brush on the cleaning rod, use wet patches only. Using a bore brush can mess up your copper equilibrium and if used improperly can damage the barrel (tho the brush uses a softer metal than the barrel).

Would recommend a smaller caliber snake than your barrel. I've gotten some of the same caliber snakes caught in my barrel. A real pain to get out. I don't put anything down the barrel except when cleaning. BoreTech products are great. I use their BoreTech Eliminator, but thinking about just switching to their carbon remover only and see how that works. I only use the brass-free jags-again 1 caliber smaller, so I can use more patch to ruin down the barrel. Their one piece cleaning roods are great. Put lots of cleaner on the first patch and run it slowly down the barrel. Remove the patch a the muzzle and withdraw the rod carefully. Let sit rofor 30 seconds or so then. run several dry patches down the barrel until they come out clean. Usually 5-6 patches. Put last on jag with a few drops of Kranoil. Use 20 ga. shotgun mop to dry chamber, then clean a lube bolt. Use grease on lugs and some Kranoil on bolt face and swab with Q-tip. DONE!

Lube bolt and bolt face after every 2-3 range trips, but only molest barrel when accuracy starts to fade. Good shooting.

If I ordered an SRS-A1 today, anyone have any idea on shipping times?

Where did you order it from? Last I heard DT was quoting 4+ months. Orders from SHOT may have changed this.

If you want one quickly, I would order from a dealer that has had them on order.

I am getting rifles in monthly from DT, most of which have not been spoken for yet.

I'm in the same boat as you with an early Gen 1 rifle. Nick has said that some of the A1 parts will be available for guys like us as upgrades, namely the slim handguard and buttpad, but not for a while. I think they plan to fill all the backorders first and catch up on production. If we want the monopod or the adjustable cheekpiece, that's going to require sending our receivers in to get milled.

Yo! (Think Jesse Pinkman accent)

I haven't been on for awhile but have made it back to this post and didn't see anything from current back to it. Are us proud few early serial number Gen1 owners still in a holding pattern for cheeckpad and buttplate upgrades? Mine will need milled for sure.

Thanks!

I'm just planning to haul mine over to the shop in UT in a few years when I move back to the States and hopefully production has stabilized. "Here, make this old girl more modern" ;)

Finally completed my cheek pad and I'm pretty happy with it. I initially ordered a couple of KICK-EEZ pads that were ok but then I ordered a couple of 3" x 6" customizable GOD'A GRIP pads and loved the textured ones. Once I had the right thickness for my setup, 3/16 inch thick, I cut the pad and did a pretty good job but I had to make it perfect and screwed it up in the process...should have left it at pretty good! D'oh! I was pissed because it takes a minimum 2 weeks to get anything to me in the mail and I work 14hrs a day wrestling bad guys so I don't have a lot of time for arts and crafts. I didn't want to mess up anymore pads so I contacted Michael Godard and asked if there was anywhere I could get my pattern precision cut and Michael offered to cut it for me which is pictured below. It's not perfect, thicker pads are a bitch to cut, but its pretty damn good! I gotta say that I don't mind not having the A1 now that I have this pad on my Gen 2 but if I had an A1 I would still slap a 1/16 inch thick textured pad on there. Only problem with this is the A1 cheek rest is approx. 7 inches long where as the customizable GOD'A GRIP pads are 6 inches. Not sure if he can get them a little longer if any A1 guys wanted it but it wouldn't hurt to check if so inclined. I'd also like to thank the couple of guys that sent me pics and measurements of their A1 pads which saved me some frustration...thanks!

I really like the otis technology's patch system for their cleaning kits. I'm usually a rod guy but I have been using their 45 pistol kit and finally got around to trying the Memory-Flex Cables from their rifle kit to run some lube down my barrel with some new oil I'm testing out. Definitely quicker because you don't have to pull it back through like a rod plus I always unscrew the jag when I pull a rod back through. Seems to give really good coverage and the patches can be sized to your liking. Lots of youtube videos if you want to see how their patch system works.

Awesome job!! How did u fasten to skins? I'd love some more info as to where to get this stuff, and possibly your pattern, thanks for posting.

This is link to the pads GOD'A GRIP Web Store: Customizable Pads

Here is the template which is 2.65" x 6" so if your printer spits out anything different you will need to adjust your print settings.

What's a reasonable usable distance to expect out of the 18" .338 barrel with a suppressor?

you should be able to get close to 2600 FPS with a 300GR.

JBM says mach 1.2 shows up at about 1200 YDS. Mach 1.0 at 1800.

I'm pushing 300gr Scenars @ approx 2500fps in my 18" barrel and made hits on 10x17" steel at 1036 and 1187 yards with little effort. But it started to open up quite a bit when engaging at 1550 yards whereas my 26" barrel was shooting tighter at that distance.

Turned out great! I think it looks like a winner and thanks for the link! Did you use the textured or smooth? it kinda looks like the textured in your photo.

Textured was by far my favorite! Really helps with your cheek weld because the smooth ones from KICK-EEZ were kind of slippery where as the textured ones from GOD'A GRIP are not.

All I need now is a MDR with an 18.5 inch barrel and I'm good to go! Was going to try and snag a FS2000 or a Tavor but I think I will hold off and see where this goes.

Not to be a spoiler but they take the time to develope new stuff which is great but meanwile folks have to wait 4-5 months or longer to get a rifle and over a month to get spare parts and counting! This is starting to wear a little thin with me I mean come on already.

R&D and production are two different beasts and just because you theoretically could tell all of the R&D guys to hop onto the floor and help pump out product, it's often not possible or a complete waste of effort (and money). Commercial companies have to constantly do R&D to stay ahead of the competition and keep their products up to date. Increasing production capacity has a more direct affect on those wait times you're talking about and Nick and Russ have both mentioned that they've invested quite a bit in the recent past to try and put out products faster and make a dent in the unprecedented backlog.

I know what your saying about R&D and I don't have an issue with that in the least, it's a must to stay out ahead. I run a Mfg. Plant and if i pulled this i would loose customers. You have to look ahead and stay ahead of the curve, it's tricky but that's just as important as R&D. If you are unable to meet demand you loose plan and simple. It just seems that things would have eased up by now. I have so much tied up with DT gear it's just getting hard for me to justify going forward and my dealer is starting to feel the crunch as well. I mean you can only say "hang in there" "next week", "only a month out" so many times. Don't get me wrong it's a great system but...it works both ways. I'm glad that folks like SAC makes barrels but other things you are captured with no other avenue not even after market. I know things happen and things take time, it's just very frustrating that's all. The market is changing and other companies are catching up like AI but it is still yet to be seen if they will be able to keep pace as well. Sorry for the rant!

I`m totally with you on this!
I mean why say gear will be in your hands within 2 weeks if you know it will take 6 months??

And Ewen, Im still waiting for an update..
