Looking to build a truck gun and want something NOT so tactical...thinking McMillan HTG M40 clone

10 Short Action, Accu-Trigger, CDI DBM, CBI .308 heavy barrel cut to 14.5" and threaded 5/8 x 24 then have a YHM QD Flash Suppressor welded on and a USO 10X.

Anyone got pics?

Hey Capt,

I put an adjustable M40HTG stock on my Salvage 10 FCP. I do like the stock, and it is a considerable improvement upon the plastic stock the rifle came with. It has a Leupold VXII in the pic. I have a USO SN3 coming from another HIDE member shortly:

Close but not exactly. McMillan HTG-Adj in Woodland. Savage 10FP with factory barrel cut and crowned at 20". Seekins Precision base and rings with IOR glass that has not been re-installed after being replaced under warranty.

I've been wondering this as well. Do any of you also have a savage in and A5? If so is the reach to the trigger the same. My A5 is perfect but I kinda want to try an HTG on the next build. Thanks.

I tried to like the HTG...but just couldn't get comfortable behind it shooting prone. The comb was too low (felt like it was lower than my A5) although a stock pack could have fixed that, and I suppose I was too used to the vertical grip. The butt was also 'lower' than the A5; I had to adjust the bipod in order to get the butt comfortably against my shoulder, and I didn't find the added height very comfortable.

All that said, it was comfortable in the hand and shooting offhand, and less optimal but fine from a bench.

I don't think I would be very happy without the "adjustable saddle." In my opinion it would definitely be too low for typical scope use.
