    Hello All,

This is my first post. I would like to ask everyone a question and please be honest. I have been reading a great deal about optics as I am looking for a new set-up. I have researched pros and cons of a great many makes discussed on this forum.

One make that doesn't get talked about much is USO. I always see S&B, NF, TT mentioned as "top range" and Vortex and Leupold as mid-range. I own a USO SN-4 that I purchased in 1999. I had the pleasure of meeting and talking several times with John Williams Sr. I also have never had a single issue with the optics and the few interactions I had with customer service were truly great.

Is there a reason USO is not included in the discussions at any range. I know the company has gone through some transformation and I don't want to make a costly error.

Any comments, good OR bad are welcome.

    Best regards,

I don't own one, but I see that Eurooptic sells them. US Optics Riflescopes - Us Optics Riflescopes On Sale That is a pretty good indication that they are not junk. Further, if you are ready to get one just drop a email to Eurooptic and mention that you are a hide member and ask for there best price and they will treat you right.

I think it's the price point. Never been behind one, but the view seems to be that they are not quite up there with the S&B, Khales, etc. The 5-25 is 3100. For a few hundred more you can get a PM II.

I have to agree with the OP. I own an ST10 and really like it. Glass is crystal clear and tracking is spot on. Seems to be built like a tank. I own several NightForce NXS scopes and glass seems to be better than the NightForce scopes. I lost the EREK dial cover somehow and they were kind enough to send me a complete dial cover set for no charge. i consider that excellent customer service.

    Thanks Samnev,

My SN4 is a 1-4x version that I purchased for my G36. I really like it. Very durable and very clear optics. I have used it on my 6.8SPC as well with good results. However, I know am in the market for a 5-25x to place inn my .308 semi autos. When I bought the USO, there weren't too many choices other than S&B and Leupold. Today there are many others so research is important.

I want to solicit as many opinions as possible as actually seeing many of the models offered by the various manufacturers is very difficult in RI or MA. This setup will be much more costly than the SN4 so I can't make an error. I really like the NF ATACR. The beast is nice but may be more than I need. Still reading about all the goodies from the SHOT show as well to find more alternatives.

It is just funny that USO never seems to get talked about on the forums.

Please keep opinions coming my way; especially if you have directly compared USO to other brands.

    Very best regards,

USO has been talked about alot of these boards over the years. People have had to use the customer service alot unfortunately though. Honestly I would get a Vortex Razor before another USO. The ATACR is nice if you want a SFP scope.

Where in RI? We have some shooters in southeast CT who have different scopes and you might be able to look at and figure what you want.

    Hi Rob,

I live on Aquidneck Island. Been here for 18 months. I belong to the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club. They have a beautiful range but it is only 200 yards long.

I'll read up on the the Razor. What do you like about it over the ATACR?

    Best regards,

The Razor is FFP so it's reticle subtends correct on any power. Used in more dynamic situations where you use the reticle for holds FFP makes the shooters life easier. The ATACR is a very good scope but SFP. If NF ever gets one out in FFP then I would buy one.

Shoot down at Ledyard Sportsman's in Ledyard CT. A bunch of Hide members shoot there. We have 400 yards.

    Hi Rob,

I didn't catch the SFP detail in the specifications section. Not interested if that is the case.

It would be great to put faces to names. I am sure I would learn a lot. I lived in CA before for 14 years so none of my rifles could see the light of day. Only shot pistol so I am pretty eager to resume.

What are the laws like in CT? I only have semi-auto rifles and I know there are restrictions in MA. There are none in RI. Let me know next time you all meet. I can always come and watch if transportation of the firearms is problematic.

    Best regards,

Yeah bringing a semi in the state wouldn't be good now. Our state sucks. You could always come down just to check out optics though and put some rounds out through our rifles.

    Roger that Rob…

Send me a PM when you guys get together. I have no problem with looking and observing only.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Best regards,
