    Hey Guys,

Ive been looking for a place to practice and shoot at 500-1000 yards now for almost a year. I live in Central PA, Carlisle area.

I know Shippensburg has a place to shoot...but I hear the chances of getting in are slim to none. Williamsport is a little far away...Id go...but Im looking for something closer (1.5 hours one way would be nice).

    Anyone know of anywhere?

Go to Mifflin County Sportsman Club its north of Harrisburg. You can shoot out to 1050 yards further if you want to bust rocks up on the mountain. Membership is like $50.00
They have two gun shoots and sponsor long range shoots

Im looking into adding a membership to Mifflin. Definitely close enough. Do you really need a 4x4 to get out to the 1000 yard range or can I get my car back there if I try?

You don't want to go up to the rifle range line itself in much less than a 4x4 or a 2WD pickup. I couldn't imagine going up the mountain in less than something with 4WD.

At Mifflin there's a a lot of range owned steel already placed, I belong and have shot there quite a bit, and have never gone further than 200 yards downrange.
The only downside of Mifflin County is they don't allow shooting on Sunday's until after 1pm I think, the right of way to the range is thru a church.
Reade Range is closer to you, and a great 1k range, rarely find anyone there, but in 2013 they got queer w their membership, you now pay your $$ but are not given a gate combo, which kinda defeats the purpose of the membership imo.
Mayberry GPA is in Taneytown, MD, goes to 600 yards, nice place too, lots of SH members shoot there.

I couldnt even imagine trying to get back in there with a car to get to the range let alone up the mountain. The other day when I was there a guy was shooting at 1000 and he had a Raptor when he came back from checking the targets he said he was sliding around coming back down the hill.

My first time there I went up to the rifle line in a low-slung sports car, as the opinion was that I "could make it." Never again, and thank God for skid plates. Once you make that left along the ridge line, the road quality literally bottoms out.

Veer, that range no longer exists... it's "smoother" in some places and worse in others. There are practically no features on the mountain any more. A D8 fixed up the range for really nice shooting (and if you miss you can't see the splash) but it's 4x4 truck or mud bug vehicle territory

They've plowed the whole damn thing, it's a lot smoother now, although still not something I'd drive my Maxima up!

A friend did it in his Subaru station wagon so it's not that bad.

But yes, Lewistown is the best you're going to find in PA. If you're in Carlisle it's not too far from you either. Steel plates from 400 - 1050, and a rock at 1500.
