Rifle Scopes SHOT 2014 impressions

I was hoping to see NF add the NP-R1 reticle to the ATACR rifle scope for 2014. The reason being the MOAR reticle that it uses has 20 MOA on the reticle where as the NPR-1 has 30 MOA that would give the scope the possibility of a total of 150 ish MOA. I am trying to get enough elevation to reach out 2500 -2700 yards with my 338 lapua.

The NP-R1 only has 30moa of drop visible in the 15x scopes. There is not enough FOV available to support much more than 20moa in the scopes above 22x - hence the reason there is 20moa in the ATACR.

Thank you for your response I nowdo not need to contact nightforce difectly is there any other reticles possibly in the works for the atacr? I already own 3 nxs scopes and is looking to soon be 4 with the purchase of a atacr moa.nightforce optics make a great scope I have no regrets with any of my purchases from them.

Excellent thoughts. Now I wish I had stopped by Minox. Did I hear you correctly that Jeff Huber has left Nightforce and is working at a distributor for Kahles?

Well, Ken Pratt who, I think, is the proprietor of Khaybes used to work for Nightforce. Jeff Huber has not been with Nightforce for a little bit now. I do not know when exactly there was a management change there, but I am sure other people here will know.

Jeff Huber was in the Kahles booth and had a Khaybes business card, so I can safely assume that he is now working with Ken.

Frankly, I kinda like that. I did not really know Jeff when he was with Nightforce, but I have to respect the way he built the Nightforce brand. His presence should be a good thing for Kahles in the US.

Ilya-
You have some bad ass T-shirts!

Seriously, thanks for doing these videos!

You are welcome.

My wife got me both of those t-shirts, so I can not take credit. There is one more that did not make it into the video. It says: "Guns do not kill people. Dads with pretty daughters kill people".

I think she caught onto the fact that I am a wee bit protective of my daughter and considering my temperament and hobbies... well, you get my drift.

Koshkin, would it be too much to ask to get a short description of what's covered in each video? For those of us with not that much time? ;)

The MOAR-T was released at SHOT in the 22x and 32x NXS. The ATACR is next in line.

The MOAR-T is the Target version of the MOAR. It is a thin line version with the line thickness of the NP-R1/R2. It will still only have 20moa of drop.

Do you have a link to a picture of the new reticle? In addition any updates on the beast?

I apologize to Ilya as it was not my intent to hijack his thread.

I also apologize for the vagueness of an update on the BEAST - Danger Close is the best I can do. Frank being on an NDA with us knows much of the reasons why and may be able to substantiate further as he has in other posts. He has been abreast of most everything involving the BEAST from its inception.

There is a reticle link on our website - Reticles | Nightforce Optics, Inc.

The reticles are not to scale and do not show the line thickness proportions properly. The MOAR - T is exactly like the MOAR only thinner in line thickness. Hope this helps.

No problem at all.

I am also interested in any news on the BEAST since I would like to test it for one of my High End Tactical articles. It would be very interesting to run it against one of the new Tangent Theta scopes.

Thanks for the update, I'm a supporter of reticles that run thin. Are you able to share the new subtensions with us at this time? I was just mentioning in another thread how the only reason I'm not still using an NF is I prefer the .035/.04 line thickness to the .05 found in the NF F1.

im glad vortex made a pst scope with the EBR-2c reticle...the razor was overkill for what i do and pst suited more my needs, now i can have the best of both worlds in one package... cant wait to pick one up soon

I am always on an NDA with someone :)

I suppose that means I can't leak anything else I saw, back rooms are fascinating. I need to add in, "Simon Says" to my NDAs so if I see something and nobody says, "Simon Says, you can tell" it lets me slip a few details.

Jeff Huber is gonna be a big addition to Kahles. they have a lot up their sleeves too. Not sure if Ilya was shown something we (Kahles & others) talked about last year. They are putting user input into production and I think it will be excellent. Jeff was a driving force for many year behind NF, did a bunch of the BEAST and ATACR, so with that Kahles is letting him add to the R&D of new products. We heard about his arrival a month or so ago and were excited to see where it goes.

There is a bunch of new stuff on the horizon as there always is, and the fact these companies are out there watching and listen just means a better product for the end user.

see anything that caught your attention ....... i just saw camelbak updated their bladders as well and in the video he addresses issues that i had such as the blader pushing my stuff out of place... seems like this year was very productive and r&d really did their homework

Between Jeff, my experiences giving the tiny Kahles booth another look this year after the misfortune two years ago with their not quite right at that time 1-6x, and Frank's factory tour last year, I'm starting to think some very good things about them.

I completely agree. Kahles will gain a lot of additional credibility and, naturally, talent, by having Jeff Huber on board. I've talked to Jeff at this 2014 Shot. He now holds position of Director at Kahles. Anyway, I salute Kahles for making Jeff an important part of their team. It should pay off nicely for Kahles in the nearest future, I have no doubts about it.

Currently the the line thickness of the MOAR is .125 MOA on the 22x and 32x (set to 22x) NXS. The MOAR-T is meant to be the same thickness as the NP-R1 at .0625 MOA. Basically, it is half of the standard MOAR.
