Is it possible and to be specific possible without damaging the coating to take a custom barrel after it's been completed/crowned to remove the crown and thread it/make a cap & or front brake?

Everyone I ever did needed to be refinished. Last one only had minor marks where the spider touched it. This stuff is nowhere as near as forgiving as bluing or park when it comes to scuffing and abrasion from tools and holders.

I've worked on several of my own in the lathe after cerakote and have not felt a need to have them refinished. I don't recall any marking on them at all.

This is a timely question - in the same boat - if you do need to re-coat - how close is the match? Receiver and all or just barrel ?

The only marks left on them when I get done are from the outbore spider screws leave some shiny marks on the barrel.

Depends on how it is done. On a steady rest you will wear away finish, thru the headstock should be fine especially if using a soft metal between the jaws and the barrel. I have done a number thru the headstock with no noticeable wear to the Cerakote.

i've done my share of work after cerakote. some ive marred some not. its never been bad enough i personally wanted to refinish them but theres alot of anal rententive pretty finish worshippers out there that dont like it. my personal stuff gets krylon these days since i like to pull them down rechamber/recrown as needed through out the barrels life. simple refinish...

It may depend on who and how the Cerakote was applied. I'd be hesitant to guarantee that the finish won't be damaged without being the one that applied it.
