Precision Rifle Match
March 1&2, 2014

Tiger Valley will be hosting a Precision Rifle Match March 1st and 2nd at its facility in Waco, Texas. Sign in will be at 7:30am and rounds will be going down range by 8:00am. You can expect targets from 60’ to 1200 yards. This is an individual event, and you will be expected to resolve all shooting situations on your own. The most physical thing you will have to do is walk up stairs to your shooting position. We wanted a match that shooting and thinking was the dominant factor, not that you can run a 4.4 forty.

Targets for this match will be the usual array of steel, Paper, LaRue targets. Props will consist of T-62 tanks, Scout vehicles, 60 foot tower, 30 foot tower, movers to 800 yards to name a few. A large segment of this match will deal with problem solving, memory and observation techniques.

Round count for this match will be 150 precision rifle and 75 pistol. Several stages will have pistol shots at CQB distances and in the Hogan’s Alley.

We plan on running 7 or 8 stages on Saturday and one or two long stages on Sunday. We will feed everyone on Sunday at lunch while we add up the scores.

This is a pride match; we do not expect a prize table. That being said, new shooters should not feel intimidated in shooting this match. I hope it can be a learning experience and draw new shooters to the venue and give them a chance to learn in a safe environment.

One of the stages for this event is mine disruption. Shooter must disrupt a land mine by shooting the plunger. Once the mine explodes, shooter engages LaRue targets at distance.

I'm very very curious about my 1000yrd target from Saturday morning. I'm sure everyone else is also! I wish I could have seen it....

The match was pretty challenging for sure. The purple targets out to 1000 would have been way easier without the 25mph gusting wind! Lol

Precision Rifle Match - Tiger Valley

So I can confuse everyone with this score sheet let me explain how we scored the match. It was scored by maximum time, plus penalties. Failure to hit a target or any other penalty was plus 30 seconds, the lowest score, that being the fastest was the winner. We had two stages that had a number value, the movers and 1000 yard KD stage. The mover stage had a possible maximum score of 100 points, the 1000 yard KD had a possible score of 50 points. To make the scores mix with the fastest or lowest score being the winner we had to base the top score of 48 on the KD a value of 2 by subtracting it from 50.

A quick overview of stages:
Moving targets involved 5 passes with one shot each pass at 200, 300, 500 and 600 yards, again if you look at the score and subtract the score from 100 you will have the point on target. G. lowder shot 21 which means he had 79 point on the moving target.

1000 yard KD
shooter had 2 minutes to fire 10 shots for record. We started out with a sighter which was disked to spot the first shot. When the target reappeared they had ten minutes to fire 10 shots. Owens had a 2 on that stage, which means he shot a 48 out of 50, nice shooting.

Tank Buster
shooters had 8 La Rue targets, two each on T-62's two in the Scout vehicle, one in a window and one on the ground masked with a no shoot. They had to engage these from a standing position through a port in the hide building

Hostage
From the top of the 60 foot tower shooters had 6 hostage targets from 125 yards to 550. A mini IPSC target was in front of a full size IPSC target. They had to hit the mini without hitting the full size. The mini was 12 inches across.

Box drill
Shooters had 3 boxes at 80 yards. Each box was held shot with a full size skeet. Shooters had to break the skeet to open the boxes in order. Once open they opened a book that gave them the desired target to engage in the box. They were only allowed two shots at any one target.

"O" Course
On the course the shooter entered a huey and engaged a start Larue target at 200 yards. He then exited the huey and moved to a pistol stating and shot to 50 yards. Then moved to designated points and engaged Larue targets to 600 yards. When down he moved to the Helicopter on springs and hit a stop plate.

Tower stage
We painted the steel pink with an orange trim. Targets were placed from 500 to 1000 yards and was shot from the 60 foot tower. Each shooter was only allowed two shots per target.

Haji
Cut outs of terrorists made from AR500 were placed in and around the two story building, technical vehicle and mortar pit. Shooter had to engage them from a building hide that looked like an roof air vent.

Larue.
10 La Rue targets placed 600 yards down range.

Land mine
Shooter started from standing to prone and engaged a land mine filled with tannerite

Haha. Me too. I just got that rifle in from the smithand only had time to shoot 20 rounds off fgmm to see if it liked it and get some dope/zero. I would have failed miserably if not for Mr Bobby Whittington letting me shoot at his piece of paradice. I brought hand loads that shot about 2 moa and really slow. I had just enough fgmm to zero shoot 15ish practice shots and left me with 4 rounds left after the match. I cut it close. A 20" 308 isn't forgiving either. Lol. I held 12 moa on the tower stage.

This was one of the funniest matches I have ever shot in. And was able to experience some new things like movers. And did better than I expected. Look forward to the next one. Wasn't able to finish this one my back was bothering me to much.
