I am going to be purchasing a scope in the near future and am having a tuff time. I originally looked at the Vortex PST, then the Ior. Ive been seeing that the HDMR Scopes from Bushnell are an option as well. It seems that every review says something different. I will be hunting with a 300 WM for deer. Mainly ranging then dialing so Im not sure I want an FFP scope. Any help is appreciated.

Would you use a different scope for deer at 1k then you do for paper? I'm not being a smart ass.......I really just want to know. Thanks.

Reason I want to know is that he said it would be for ranging a lot.
If, this question would be asked and if it were for deer I would say that you got a ways to go first.
Just trying to see what the use would be. I use the same scope for both but I don't see myself taking a 1k yd deer shot either.

But the post says ranging not dialing.

You cant mil and deer and expect a hit. Just wondering really.

Your right. I'm just digging

Personally, for 1000yd and in, I'd be looking at the 2.5-10 or 3-9x range scopes, as well as the 3-15 and 4-16x range scopes.

Take your pick from Vortex, IOR, US Optics, Nightforce, Leupold, SWFA.... Nightforce is a personal favorite of mine, Vortex and SWFA if you're on a budget.

I've used everything from 3.5x (mosin PU sniper) to 22 and 25x scopes out to 1200yd. With the variable power scopes I end up around 12-15x even if there is more zoom available, less if there's a lot of mirage.
