Starting to hunt yotes, dillos and bobcats this spring on my leased hunting land. A 300yd. shot would be the max on this property. Are the 1K to 1.5K priced packaged ar-15's good enough to do the job. If not, do I still buy one and upgrade or build one. Scope not included in price. Please give brand and model with your suggestion.

I'm sure there will be folks that say 1500 isn't enough but for only a 300yd shot you will get plenty of use with that, I would even say go with something on the lower end of that price range and then upgrade with the extra as you figure out what you like and don't like. As for glass it all depends on how much you want to spend, something in the 3-15x range is more than enough for yotes.

A $700 S&W AR15 is capable of doing the job. Dead coyotes don't care how much they cost

I just had a 5.56 upper built how I wanted with the options I wanted plus a lower with everything to complete the rifle by Brett at Ironworks tactical for well under the 1500.00 mark. It has an awesome barrel on it from AR Performance. I ordered the lower and put together myself, Brett does not sale complete rifles. If you cant put the lower together yourself, most any gunsmith could do it for you for a nominal fee. I got the Aero precision lower. Its a mil spec lower. I put a red dot aimpoint on it that I already had, but can tell you that I would have had PLENTY of cash left over to purchase a good quality scope if I had a 1500.00 limit. Check them out, great quality stuff.

I cover a lot of ground when hunting coyotes so I bought a very light weight AR15 in 204 Ruger with an 18 in fluted light profile barrel. I picked it up on Clearance from Cabelas and added a Geiselle SDE trigger and a 3 point sling. Topped with a 4-14x44 Sightron SII big Sky I find that I rarely take it off 4 power when hunting. The only time I cranked it up was a prone shot on a standing coyote at 440 yards. For Varmints I don't think you can beat a 204 for pure flat trajectory inside 400 yards.

I have a RRA and it works there are some that are better but with Black Hills 69smk it will hold .5 MOA, having said that I have not seen any Black Hills 69 in what seems like forever.

This is exactly what I would do (if I were the OP). It's easy to properly assemble uppers as well and is a good learning experience.

Hmmmm, 1500 got me rifle scope and rings.

Its my dedicated predator rifle, and I love it. So far it has been a solid sub MOA rifle. Just barely but never gone over 1MOA.

Remmy R15 in 223. Lupy 3-9 don't remember exact model, lupy one piece base.

I shoot 40Vmax to 60Vmax and it aint left one yet.

Sorry for the bad pic

I did the samething as you. I recently just purchased rra 18" varmint a4 upper, vortex pst 2.5-10x44 on a milspec lower ssa-e trigger and prs stock. It will be my dedicated coyote and varmint fun. Have read nothing but good things about the rra upper and a good price and all components were in stock too!!

With a $1500 budget, build one or have one built. You can get some nice options for that kind of money.
