I am just getting into long range shooting and am looking for an entry level scope to mount on a new Savage .308.
Those I am considering are:
Bushnell Elite Tactical 10x40
SWFA SS 10x40
Nikon 3-9x40
The Nikon is in the mix because it comes on a Savage Package that I considering.
Any thoughts on the relative advantages/disadvantages of these scopes is appreciated
thanks in advance, R1d

The Bushnell Elite Tactical scopes are really nice scopes, I had an SWFA SS and was not impressed with it, but a friend has one of the bushy's and its a really nice scope..plus they come in a bunch of configurations.

If that is the range you are looking at, you may want to consider The Midway Weaver 3-10X40 Tactical. It is one of the few decent scopes in that price range that is MIL/MIL. When dialing elevation for longer distance, it is pretty common to use MIL turrets with a MIL based reticle, or MOA/MOA for that matter.

Though, for a fixed 10x, it is tough to beat the price of the Bushnell Elite 3200 and it is MIL/MIL as well

Both of the Fixed 10's should do you fine. I have one of each and love em. I don't shoot with em much but I started out with the bushnell one and it served me fine for a year or so till I bought a NF, the bushnell has still done well on everything I have put it on though. Great started scope. Gets the basics through your head as its turrets are the only things you can adjust on it. I think it pushes consistency on you.

Many great choices out there though. Really its all on what you wanna spend and what the scope will be used for. If you only have like 400 or so though I would stick with those fixed 10x's or save more money

I have the ss 10x42 on my 308 and love it. It has been dropped and abused and still functions perfectly. The one down side is that it is fixed power.

All 3 are nice , Stick with the Nikon till you save up some money for a nice used Bushnell Elite tactical . simple mill dot or the G2 ret.

I like the Bushnell 10x mil/mil myself.

I had two and they have both tracked accurately and been perfectly reliable. While some see the one inch tube as a disadvantage, it keeps the optic light and small.

I had a Bushy 10x mil/moa and it served it's purposes nicely. New they run about $250 but in the optics for sale section they can be found for sub $200. I would get the Bushy 10x mil/mil and save your money until you can afford something better.

Had an SWFA on my savage 10fcp-hs 308 for several months and served me well. Everything about it was excellent in build and quality. I also have a nikon prostaff 3-9x40 on my 223 howa and think its a great value but i dont like the wired reticle. The nikon has better clarity than the swfa, but i like the external tactical turrets on the swfa vs prostaff.

Also, I'm selling my SWFA if you are interested. PM me if you decide thats what you want.
