Well I am going to try something different, I am going to try a Criterion barrel with the Northland Shooters Supply barrel nut system on one of my Remington 700s. This should be interesting to say the least, I am kind of excited to have the option of changing out calibers on my short action. Pictures to follow when everything arrives

Jim at Northland was a fountain of information, which made me want to do this system. My wife is so going to so hate me now if this system delivers as he stated.

I have a Criterion barrel on my Savage and it is at least equal in accuracy to my Rock Creek and Bartlein barrels. If everything else is right with your action and set up, you will be astounded by the accuracy that it produces.

i just order 2 cbi's from Jim for a switch barrel r700 setup yesterday...if they are anything like my current savage cbi barrel i will be VERY happy...my savage hammers everything, i can switch between 120 amax, 139 scenar, and 140 bthp loads without ever changing my 100 yd zero

I am very impressed with the quality. I just got mine in the mail today. Once everything is set, I will update. It looks great. 26" 6.5 creed. 8 twist.

I appreciate the info, it just made things worst, mine does not arrive until Wedensday,,,lol

I am intrigued by this. It would be nice to swap barrels without the expense and the wait.

Has your 700 action been trued?

No my action has not been trued, per Jim you just want to make sure the action is squared up and not a lot of metal needs to be removed from the action. He stated do not remove a lot of metal from the receiver or chase the threads on the barrel. If you do it will not work, so if your action has already been trued you are SOL because your replacement barrels have to be custom fit to your action. As he stated you should be able to take the Criterion barrel off and screw your original barrel back on with no problems. He did say that a small grove has to be milled in the bottom of the action that is in a straight line with the action bolt holes in the bottom of the receiver. This groove is where the capture pin that runs through the recoil lug rest in the groove to keep the recoil lug from spinning when you torque down the barrel. Also you have to look at your bedding block or your stock to make sure that the barrel nut is not resting on either because your action is not resting properly in your chassis or stock if this happens. He stated that just a small part of the barrel nut contacts the chassis or stock and keeps the action from resting properly in the channel and the channel may have to be relieved so the nut is free from contact. Also the lug they send is a thicker lug so you have to make sure you platform will except it. Mine is going in an AICS platform so the lug mill out will except the thicker recoil lug all ready. He also stated that McRee chassis will take the Remage barrels with no needed mods for this issue, he did not know about AICS but he said that most bedding blocks in the newer platforms are channeled to where there should be no contact. He also stated that the bolt lugs may have to be lapped if they are not in good contact with the barrel other words one lug touches and the other does not.

Best thing is to call Jim and get the low down to make sure I am not missing anything. Or if someone has done this all ready throw it up so we can see how you did it and throw up some accuracy info.

Well my barrel came today, just like Christmas,,,lol. Finish was outstanding, here are some pics of the components.

Next stop CeraKote!

Well picked up my action and barrel from the smith and simple as pie to install after the pin notch was machined into the action. The action face was square and the bolt lugs were good to go also from Remington so there was no additional machine work. Dropped it off at MHSA to have them thread the barrel for a suppressor and then next stop for real is Cerakote.
