This will be my first silencer. It's going on a 308 with a 18.5" barrel. I want a threaded can, not a quick detach.
What's difference does length and width have to do with quality. I'm leanining in the direction of titanium and would like to keep it under 18oz. Thoughts and info are appreciated.

Seems like most folks like the Thunderbeast although I don't have one to comment on. Personally going with AAC Cyclone due to price and performance. All of which is still in the works. Sorry not more help!

Thunder Beast is outstanding! As far as thread on, it would be the only one I would consider.

Can't go wrong with thunderbeast.

SilencerCo Harversters have really peaked my interest. Especially at 11oz.

here is my 2 cents and I own multiple suppressors and have been exposed to several in the military.

Surefire has always been my favorite on precision rifles/ARs, yes they are pricey but the warranty and customer service I have encountered with them has always been good. bonus if you get the 762SS it overlaps 2.5" of your barrel so you do not add too much to your OAL but the sound suppression is top notch, I run one on my 16" 308 AR10. Bad part for you is they do not offer a thread mount but they do lock up solid.

AAC is my go to for my ARs that I beat the shit out of. their 51t mount is a little loose (which can be fixed with some lapping compound and 20 minutes of free time) but because of that the cans never stick after being beat up, they always go on and off easily. Only thread mount AAC I have is the ranger 2 and on AR's it sucks but on my bolt gun its good.

I recently purchased a GemTech Sandstorm but it is still pending so no comment on it yet, however I have used the G5 and Halo and was not impressed. their 22 cans are good and very affordable.

I have a TBAC 338BA and 30PSS as well. 30PSS is only to keep my 300BLK as short and light as possible so I'm not worried about the sound suppression. The 338BA is amazing making that cannon sound like a 308, My buddies 30P1 sounded pretty good as well on both a 308 and 260 Rem.

The decision is going to come down to what are you most concerned with? accuracy, weight, length, or price? either way it will be sitting at your gun shop for 10 months while the ATF sticks fingers up your butt so choose wisely, because in those 10 months you might get another rifle and wish the can you purchased was rated for or had sufficient sound suppression on your other rifle as well.

when comparing cans this website will show you the importance just a few decibels difference can make. enter different amounts in the calculator and watch the sound, pressure, and power differences change.

Thanks every ne for the input. So the gun I want to put this on is being built by a custome shop in Knoxville. It's a its a rem 700 scout package chambered in 308. I'll have a forward mounted micro h1 on it. I had this gun built because the deer hunting I do requires a lot of treking up and down the large steep foothills at the base of the smoky mts. Accuracy is Imortant but it's not everything. I mean I'll be using a red dot with a 2moa out to 200 yards I'm not looking to punch holes. In my build, size of the gun was paramount. I wanted something that I could swing quick and wouldn't kill me making the hikes in and out. So all that being said for a lot gun where weight and suppression come before accuracy what is your opinion? Also in regards to a can affecting accuracy how much movement are we discussing. Like an inch at 100yrds or more or less?

here is a list of common thread mount cans.
cans in bold are rated for up to 300WM others are not.

AAC:
300-TM, 9.3", 15oz, $1,195, 28-33db reduction
Cyclone, 9.5", 22.4oz, $750, 30-33db reduction

Gemtech:
HVT-THD, 8.2", 24oz, $775, 30db reduction
Sandstorm, 7.8", 13.3oz, $1,125, 27db reduction

TBAC:

30PS, 7", 13.5oz, $995, no db rating listed but is 2-3 db louder than the 30P-1.
also TBAC doesn't recommend sustained semi-auto use, so keep that in mind if you ever want to use your same can on an AR10 type rifle. "Bolt-action and limited semi-auto use only" per their website.
