I am currently in the process of shopping for glass for a new rifle. I have been leaning toward the Vortex HS-T, it has the variable magnification range and mil/mil setup I'm looking for. I had a Viper PST 6-24 on my last rifle and was happy with it. Does anyone know how the PST and the HS-T glass compares? I would also like to hear from anyone currently running the HS-T, how are you liking it?

What are some other options with similar magnification, mil/mil, and price that I should be considering? How would you rate them compared to the HS-T?

I'm just trying to make an informed decision.
Thanks for any feed back.

I believe PST line and HS-T share the same glass. I had an earlier version of the HS-T and thought it was a great scope for the money. Turrets were great and had zero stops.

Only differences between a PST 4-16x SFP and the HS-T is illumination, etched vs wire reticle, and objective size.

Same tube, same glass.

I have two HS-T 4-16s, they are a hair brighter/clearer IMO than the 5-15x Midway special.

I will hopefully be picking up 2 of the HS-T 4-16x44's for our hunting rifles. I have grown very fond of the Vortex line of scopes. There is ALOT of scope there, with ALOT of features, for not ALOT of funds. Their warranty is absolutely bulletproof as well.

I have one in MOA/MOA and I'm glad I bought it. I only have use it once, shooting pop-ups out to about 500 yards. Worked great.

Any thoughts on how the HS-T compares to the SS 3-15x42? I know the SS is FFP and the Vortex is SFP. How does the quality and glass compare? Is the SS really worth the extra $150?

I've got both and I think the SS is a better scope overall. The glass is better in the SS and it's FFP. The HST does have better feeling turrets though but that's about it IMO.

So far, my HS-T has performed well. Much scope for the money. Tracking test showed it to be spot on up to 10 mils in elevation. My target board wasn't tall enough to test it any higher than that. Glass quality is definitely better than my 16x SS. Reticle sub tensions are accurate. As long as it keeps performing, I will be continue to be impressed.

I have the Vortex in the 50mm. Tracks very well, glass is ok for the money. I have had other scopes with better glass towards evening, but the price difference was substantial. The glass is good enough to get you in trouble (past legal time) which nobody needs. I would buy another.

I have the HS-T on my shorty/hunting rifle. I have used it quite a bit and it has been great. I really like FFP on my comp rifle but for a rifle you do not plan on shooting comps with this is a great scope for the money.

The HS-T is a fantastic scope and for the price it's hard to beat. Check around for pricing. You should be able to get one for less than $500.

Any idea who has the best deal on the Vortex HS-T? Seems like everyone has them listed at $559. Is this the best price going or is there someone offering a little better deal.

just sold my brand new hst here on the hide a couple days ago for $510 its a great scope for the money but I wanted to try the swfa 3-15 more so I sold it. the hst ranges at 16x which I thought may be an issue but it was as clear and bright as my fixed 16x swfa at the same power which was nice. it is a good scope but being that you can only range or do holdovers at 16x which makes the hunting aspect of it hard because that's pretty high where with the ffp you have a full range for holdovers

This is what I've been trying to decide, the HS-T or the swfa 3-15. I've had a PST in the past and was happy with it but I've never had a FFP scope before.

Does your SS have any play in the turrets? In what ways do you find the Vortex turrets better?

Thanks

For long range targets having the reticle at max power is great on an sfp optic but if you wanted to hunt or shoot at different ranges and shorter distances having the reticle correct at all magnification ranges is handy I think anyways. The weaver tactical 3-15 with the edmr reticle is a great lower priced ffp scope that is just as good as the others mentioned the only drawback is the warranty hold for the original owner only so not great to buy second hand and it hurts resale value if sold

Yes the SS does have a little play. The HST turrets just feel a little better thats all.

Well....I went a different direction. After talking with Neil from CameralandNY I got a good deal on a 6-24x50 Vortex Viper PST. Thanks for all the comments and advise.
